Thread: Best Comedy of All Time

Leslie Nielsen doing deadpan is sheer brilliance.

And OMFG, Office Space is not THAT funny. Yeah, it's a funny movie, but there's no way it can be considered in the running for funniest movie of all time. Same thing with Wayne's World.

    Holy Grail definitely deserves to be up there. I suck so much for forgetting it ;_;

I really didn't like Something About Mary that much... I laughed maybe three or four times.

It's way more funny than crap like Spaceballs and Airplane (of course my dead grandmother is funnier than Spaceballs). It's humor isn't obvious, in your face and juvenile, it actually requires a wee bit of thinking. But I do think you have to have worked in an office setting like that to truly appreciate the movie, it's a genius movie and captures the cubicle farm brilliantly.

Hmmm..I think maybe the topic is too broad becasue now I'm thinking about some of the hilarious older stuff I've watched like Marx Brothers films, Duck Soup and the Opera one...those films are hilarious. And then there's some of Charlie Chaplin's stuff which I found very funny. And then I think about the classic Cary Grant comedies. And of course one of Billy Wilder's best films, Some like it Hot, with Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon, and Tony Curtis.

Then there's modern stuff like Rushmore and Royal Tennebaums -- both hilarious films (and much more than that).

...oh and Caddyshack is a classic...oh crap and Strange Brew too...they're all coming back to me, way too many comedies to do a poll like this...

---and BBob, I like teh Woody Allen...and think *some* of his stuff is rather hilarious (and some is utter festering garbage!)

I'm going to take a picture of my cubicle and all it's clutter and post it.

Office Space is funny though... I guess you guys are right, and every movie I listed is the same type of comedy. I just don't think Office Space is as funny as either the Naked Gun or Young Frankenstein, which nearly made me die of strokes from laughter.

Well it's a poll for the funniest EVER. Not just what Mzo likes (although I realize it's your poll, so you're entitled). But if you truly want a fair vote more options and a wider range should be available. If they're not funny then nobody should vote for them.

  7. Kick me in the nuts, because Office Space is fucking hilarious. Monty Python movies (Life of Brian, Hollywood Bowl), Kevin Smith movies (Mallrats, Jay & Silent Bob) and Caddyshack are great as well.

And I agree with Stormy - this list is pretty one-sided. My favorite comedies are usually the ones with funny dialogue; I'm not a huge fan of slapstick.

At least you found it funnier then I did.

Regarding Office Space: I thought it was the funniest thing in the world the first time I saw it, I almost died laughing. The second time I saw it I only found it about half as funny, it provided more entertainment for quotables then it did as an actual film. Matter of fact, I think my friends and I laughed more the last time we went to Friday's and made comments about flair then we did the last time we watched Office Space. I have no desire to ever see it again, compared to the childish and overdone Spaceballs which I still enjoy watching after 10 years.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good movie, but I'd honestly rather watch Men in Tights right now. Reminds me, I haven't seen Hot Shots Part Deux in years, I need to go rent that.

  9. i like all the movies mentioned. I just think that the poll is one sided.... does anybody like Meet the parents? That movie was pretty funny (although not funniest ever). Zoolander was a whole satire on the design industry, which was funny because I know something about design (school wise anyway).

  10. Um, I should probably point out that the main proponent of Farrelly bros. movies has yet to spell their name correctly.

As for me, Planes, Trains, & Automobiles.

Honorable mentions: Better Off Dead and Raising Arizona.
