Thread: Best Comedy of All Time

  1. I guess incorrectly spelling their name correctly directly correlates to how much I like their movies.

I've never seen Planes, Trans and Automobiles but I heard it was hilarious.

The Naked Gun doesn't have funny dialogue?? No one can deadpan like Leslie Nielsen. NO ONE. It's not ALL slapstick.

I own all the Kevin Smith movies on DVD, and while I like them, there are MANY awkward moments because of his super wordy scripts where you see the actors struggling to stay in character while trying to spit out those mouthfuls.

Yeah, the list is one-sided, because 67% of the movies are Mel Brooks comedies. Those were the first that came to my mind. I made the poll with then intention of taking nominations and changing the options as we went along... I didn't realize that polls were uneditable by teh common folk such as myself.

I still wouldn't add Office Space or any of the Kevin Smith movies, though. Definitely Hot Shots, the Python movies. Meet the Parents was also hilarous, I approve of that.

  3. Have you seen the new Stiller movie that's coming out? The one where he's playing basketball with some insidiously hairy guy with no shirt on. And the guy goes up for a block or something and ben stiller hits the guys sweating body with his face in super slow motion.

It's absolutely amazing. The theatre I was in was cracking up. I'm a huge Stiller fan.

Never seen it, never wanted to see it. Your comedy tastes seem to synch pretty well with mine so maybe I'll check it out.

I remember that, although I'd thankfully have forgotten it exists if not for this post. That sweaty pit scene was almost funny because of its grossness but otherwise I thought the trailer was about on par with Garfield as far as humor goes. Well, probably worse since it went on for longer (or seemed to, anyway).

  5. Farley Brothers have their moments. What they really need to do is start coming up with more original material than going after cripples/handicaps.

Still, they did Dumb and Dumber.

  6. While it kind of falls in the same vein as the "type" of comedy the list seems to be heavily one sided to, where the hell is

    SPINAL TAP!!!?

I'm glad somebody mentioned Planes, Trains & Automobiles, too.

There's lots of good stuff mentioned and on the list. Spaceballs is not one of them.

    Here's some of my favorites:

    The Holy Grail
    Life of Brian
    Young Frankenstein
    Blazing Saddles
    Spinal Tap
    Planes, Trains & Automobiles
    There's Something About Mary
    Meet the Parents
    L.A. Story
    The Pink Panther
    A Shot in the Dark
    When Harry Met Sally

Yeah, well, I generally don't like Ben Stiller movies too much, because they're really not that funny. But this one had some original stuff that hasn't been done a million times before that made me laugh. I've gotta see it again and see if it's still funny or not; only seen it once on DVD (by force).

  8. I'm a big fan of the Naked Gun movies (by that I mean the first two), and would have voted for them it if Blazing Saddles wasn't on there. This is probably because whenever I watch the Naked Gun it's usually when my uncle is around who laughs at it like it's the first time he's ever seen it. Really makes the movie funnier. Same thing goes with Christmas Vacation in this case.

  9. Come on! Where's the love for Me, Myself and Irene? That movie is damn funny and one of the few Jim Carey movies that had me rolling every 5 minutes.
