The Zen can play wav flies. As far as I know, the ipod doesn't do that yet.... That is a huge factor if you ask me. Anyway, the zen is on my Christmas list. In a few days I'll know if I got one.

Well, except, seems to be a Mac-only function. Which is rather odd, considering that AIFF is a far-preferred standard over WAV when it comes to Mac OS.

But hell, just compress everything as 320Kbps AAC files. If you can still hear the difference, then you're a freak of nature. *heh*

And as far as using it as an external HD, you just plug it into your computer, and it's ready to be used. How hard is that? Or, do you mean that Windows is too crappy of an OS to just be able to do that?

Yep its WINDOWS' fault it doesnt work this way.

Nope, since almost all the other HD players function as an external HD, and often do so without drivers.

In the last Ipod thread I was able to pick out the 320 kps mp3 from the wav, but I've yet to hear an AAC at any bitrate....

Just for the record, I'm leaning towards the Dell. $50 cheaper than the smallest ipod and 50% bigger!

I dunno about you guys, but when I spend hundreds of dollars on something as frivilous (I know I spelled that shit wrong) as an mp3 player, I shouldn't have to dig around for a cheap battery solution. Pisses me off that the company lied (until recently) about the battery thingy as well. Blah.
