I would be afraid of the return to 3D if Nakazato were not at the helm this time. Hopefully the "strategy elements" bit won't mean that the game turns out to be even more pattern-based. Thank goodness Shattered Soldier is referred to as the "main" Contra franchise- it looks like we'll possibly see a SS2 sometime.
It was a bit unnerving for about half a second to see him say the Appaloosa games were good references- but just maybe he'll fix up what they botched in that style of Contra.
Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)

i was hoping for something that looked at least marginally better than a PSX game..![]()
It looks exactly like Shattered Soldier, what's your problem?Originally Posted by johnk_

Gah. Even if this game actually turns out good I'm still dissapointed that it's not a traditional side scrolling Contra(Though if they make a true SS sequel after this then all is well). I'll remain optimistic about this though.
Well, this game reminds me of Super Contra overhead levels in the Arcade version. I was so dedicated to the genre I used to have a super C arcade game in my room, which was waay too small for it. Anyway, I too believe that 3D has no place in these type of games and I find that it is more intense and true to the nature of video games to see all of your enemies and god forbid have enemies which are not Gouraud shaded and are actually drawn. Haha I prefer 2D..
I don't know how to get rid of the huge space here.
Okay, it is one thing when MP when 3d. But this is a totally different story. Metroid games always shoot straight, while contra games always allowyed you to shoot in any direction you want.
That said, if they somehow managed to allow you to run while shooting in any direction (ie not run sideways etc.), I would be intrigued.
I can see how it could be done, but I don't know if it would be too awkway or not.
L1 = fire
L2 = strafe left
L3 = bomb
R1 = jump
R2 = strafe right
R3 = switch weapon(for more complex switching of weapons, the d-pad would be more suitable)
Left analog = move/ change facing direction
Right analog = aim without changing facing direction.
I know that I'll get flamed for this, but Metroid Prime didn't do Metroid justice in the same way 3D Contras don't do Contra justice. She moved like a tank, couldn't move and shoot in different directions at the same time and there is no screw attack?!?! All things that every damn 2D Metroid had. Metroid,like Contra should stay in the 2nd demension.Originally Posted by Damian79
