Thread: Another Contra game? *pics*

  1. Point taken on the memorization aspects of SSoldier... so I guess it's still hard, just not in the best kind of way.

But with Maximo vs. Zin, it's not really very hard at all. The platforming bits are still annoying, and the fact that refilling your health is such a bitch is grating, but I had no prob finishing the game. The last boss is utter cake, too.. .

You thought the platforming bits were annoying?

I thought they were the whole point. Or did I miss the RPG in there?

  3. Sorry to transform this into a Maximo discussion... But... I think I've overstated the 'annoyance' of the platforming.... as I definitely do like some jumping in my 3d action/adventure games. It's more the feeling that Maximo's platforming is often a little haphazard due to poor camera angles, and a lot of the really difficult jumps arent worth it (Zin has tons of realllly hard jumps to get a key or death koin-it's generally easier to not even bother). So, the platforming isn't what's wrong w/ Maximo...but it doesn't really help the repetitive, simple combat against a handful of enemies. Zin's just not very inspired, looks about 2 years old, and in no way an improvement over the original. It's still a fun time, completely worth renting and playing through.

  4. Contra: Shattered Soldier was hardcore, I'd definitely want a sequel with more characters, levels, and better graphics and bosses.

How did SS do in sales anyway? I recall it doing pretty decent.

Don't worry about it too much, Thray, I'm just picking on ya.

I guess there'll be a Zin thread soon enough. Back to Contra!

  8. I hope the new Contra (if it is in fact being made) stays in 2D.

I dig Shattered Soldier. Not perfect, maybe, but how many old-school side-scrollers are on modern consoles (GBA aside)?
