Thread: Disc Read Error

  1. MechDeus' ProTip of the Week: Use the smudge tool.

Seriously though, I like the style on the bunny character alot, not feeling it as much from the gal (she still looks good, but they don't necessarily match in style yet). 'course, if you're just getting preliminary stuff out of the way, there's plenty of time for synching everything up later.

Interesting...I get the feeling it's not a "funny" comic, but more like an online comic book; not that it won't have funny moments, but not the typical "punchline in the third panel" sort of thing. I was thinking about doing something like that myself, but had no idea how to make money off of it, and wasn't sure if it would be worth the time. Where do you see going with this? Pet project and more if it takes off?

You bet your ass (I was actually waiting for someone to complain about overuse of it )! It works so well I just can't help myself, although I might change that as I work on my coloring technique. These are really the first things I've tried coloring in years as I always tend to choke when it comes to creating color schemes for characters.

The spirit animals will probably seem a bit out of place compared to everything else, but I honestly haven't even done up concepts for the look of cities yet (still waiting to finish more of the story and get a better feel for the exact technological level of everything). I might come back to her later but I want to get some other characters done first.

    Bingo.

I don't plan on making any money off this, at least not yet. Right now it's just something I want to draw and I think it'll make a good springboard for getting used to drawing and coloring with the tablet. If I only had a Cinteq.

More or less. There's really only two story arcs for this world planned out right now and they aren't really connected to each other. Maybe I'll do multiple seperate story arcs like Sin City or something, I'm really not sure. Wait and see for all of us.

  3. Any pirates present in Read Disc Error? I'd like to see a pirate in this style. It seems cool enough and that bunny definitely has got some issues to work out, emotionally. Should be an interesting read.

  4. Looks very cool, since you won't say too much about the story right now I'm kind of lost as to the plot of comic... but the characters look good and the art is nice

Hey MechDeus, is there a wolf in the comic?... sorry I had to ask

Man I wish I had more time so I could draw... I just wish I had more time period

Nope, and nor will there be any in DRE. I do have a few pirate drawings somewhere in my actual paper sketchbooks as one of them is a major player in another story I've been working on (technically for the last nine years) but I'm not sure where they are right now.

None yet but I wouldn't discount it. FYI, you might be interested in another project I've been meaning to start that I might get around to doing before DRE (it's already written but the art is much more complex). If I do it, you'll know it when you see it.

This one took a few days mainly due to personal problems and crazy roommates, but I now present another spirit animal. I also did a quick sketch of a closeup of one of Maria's eyes for a friend so I'd figure I'd post that as well (it's kinda hard to tell how they look from far away). The spirit animal's leg wrap will have an insignia on it, but I'm not sure what the design will be just yet.

  6. Nice coloring even though they are a bit blurry. If you like those nice soft subtle look better, try using PSP instead of photoshop, it'll give more of a natural look and save you much more time.

  7. That left arm on the wolf spirit guide is awesome. The legs look a bit chunky for the upper body, but I suppose he can run really fast.

They're tri-section legs (like the rabbit), but drawn from an odd angle and done all in black so it's hard to tell.

Shingo: I tried PSP briefly but I need to figure out some calibrating first. It wasn't recognizing my tablet pen as pressure sensitive and dual-ended (although I figured out that a glitch with Bittorrent will cause the same thing to happen to Photoshop) and if I can't make that work then PSP will be pretty much useless to me.

  9. Bittorrent glitch? I also have bittorrent installed. Hmmm I noticed time to time my wacom tablet was working a little funky. I wonder if that's the cause of it. Can you tell me more about this glitch?

I actually haven't tried running PSP without having bittorrent on (why haven't I tried that yet?) but I've noticed that whenever bittorrent gives any sort of error message (dropped connection, trouble with peers, etc) no matter if it's still downloading or not, until I click the OK box in bittorrent my tablet only functions as a regular mouse. The latest release of bittorrent is just buggy as hell in all regards, I was using the previous version for months after this one was released and never got any error messages, and as soon as I started using the new one it gives me popups all the time.

It might have some other non-obvious glitches that's screwing with me as well, but that's the only one I've blatently noticed.
