Thread: Pete Rose

  1. Grin

Rose bet on games he managed.

Ice him from baseball. For life.

He should never be enshrined in the HOF. Even posthumously.

What a disgrace he is to the sport he (purportedly) loved and to himself.

  2. Popular opinion will win out; there never really was a chance for Rose to not get in.

  3. Someone once said something to the effect of the baseball hall of fame being a comlete and utter sham if the player with more hits than anybody else in the 100+ year history of the game isn't in there.

I tend to agree with that opinion, though I tend to be a pretty forgiving person with these types of things, so, meh.
    omg TNL epics!

  4. Well, one of the reasons he had more hits than anybody is that he stuck around long after his ability was gone (COUGHCOUGHCALRIPKENCOUGH). Since he was the manager, he just penciled himself in over younger, better players who deserved to play. He's such a scumbag. I feel bad for all the Reds fans who looked up to this guy while he hurt thier team both as a player and as a manager.

I agree with Ragnarok.. Even though i dont know much about this topic, i have heard that he was betting on His team, but that they would win... So unless he had a word with the opposiong team, i dont find anything wrong with this..
You can never be one of the dead, because something that has no existence can have no community.

  6. This is number #38943054 on Selig's "Quick Fixes for MLB's huge problems" list. This guy is fucking ridiculous. I know any excitement that was once had from a Mets-Yankees series is now gone, and I imagine its the same for White Sox-Cubs, SF-Oakland, etc. The All-Star-winner-determing-the-home-team is fucking ludicrous, etc. I know there's a lot more but jeez, this guy is bad.

Well, what's wrong is that baseball is a marathon, not a sprint. You don't play to win every game, because in certain situations it hurts the team in the long run. For example, you need to win "todays" game, so you use all your best relievers. These relievers will now be less effective or even unavailable for the next few days, possibly costing more wins than the one it gained.

  8. Christ, with all the bullshit going on in the sports world, Rose is more on the "a little seedy" side than an out and out evil. Let 'im in.
So I forced my hands in my pockets and felt with my thumbs and gallantly handed her my very last piece of gum.

That's one thing he's done that i actually like. The Allstar game has serious problems because everyone is just dogging it. This exhibition crap is bullshit, i want to see teams playing to win. I want the best players out there all 9 innings and i don't give a shit if the 25th man's kids don't get to see him play. This solution doesn't solve the problem totally, but it's a start. And seriously, it's a much better, fairer, way to choose homefield advantage than just alternating it every year.

  10. Rose should not be allowed into the HOF or back into baseball. He broke the rules and he should have to deal with the concequences. Would they bend the rules to let someone else back in who was not the same calibre of player? No way so they should not do it for him either. He did the crime so he should pay the bear the responsibility. Admitting it is nice, since his denials have always been such a farce, but it's not enough.

As for Selig, he's a greedy selfish stupid criminal jackass who has run MLB straight into the ground. I used to love baseball and now I can barely muster any interest. I hope against hope that he and his fellow defendants (Loria, MLB, etc) lose their massive lawsuit against the former owners of the Expos. According to internet rumours, there is a good chance they will settle and have to give the team back plus damages because they are so scared of having to open the books to the US Courts. Hopefully justice will prevail.
