Thread: Pete Rose

  1. And killing someone has nothing to do with football. All these comparisons are faulty.

  2. So... 24, huh? You were about 5 when he broke the record, right? I doubt you followed his career long enough to care. Has it crossed your mind that Rose's banishment from baseball is a punishment to his fans just as much as it is to him? Who's your favorite player? How would you feel if he were banned?

  3. It doesn't matter. What Stone said is correct. Charlie Hustle was one of the greatest players of all time. He was a big part of the Big Red Machine. What he did as a manager should have no effect on his eligibility for the HoF. I hate gambling and the people who do it and I still think Rose should be in there.

Well, if anything all you're saying is that i'm not biased, which is a good thing as far as i'm concerned. I think it's sad that he let all his fans down, but if the fans can't come to grips with the facts that's thier problem. God forbid this blindness ever results in him managing the reds again. Regardless of gambling, off the field Rose has never conducted himself in a way which merits being idolized. On the field, fine, he was "Charlie Hustle", great way to play the game, but he also stuck around about 5 years to long. His hit record is the result of greed. Rose has never been anything but self-serving. The fact that he generates all this charity from others is sad given that he has never shown the same goodwill to the people that respected him.

  5. I agree with stormy here. Im not convinced Rose has any sympathy for what he did. He spent 14 years lying about it, wasting everyone's time, etc. Now he is running out of time ... he has 2 more chances to get in the HOF from the Writer's. He admits everything now, when he has a book coming out with an initial print run of 500,000 copies. Article on ESPN outlines it. The guy is sleaze. All along the only thing serving him has been money, greed, and fear of his legacy being tainted. Even today these are the only tenets he lives by.

His playing should make him eligible for the hall, but it just so happens his ridiculous antics off-the-field and as a manager has made him ineligible. Yes, you can point to other pieces of shit who are in the hall... but the circumstances are different here from Cobb or whatever.

    01. Rose played.
    02. Rose became a manager and gambled.
    03. Rose got caught.
    04. Rose got banned.

The order of events here made him ineligible for the hall, and that was his own doing.

And to all his fans: He doesnt give a shit about any of you. Like the ESPN article says an apology is in order if you cough up the money for the book and a $50 autograph fee. He has never cared about any of you. He lied to you for 14 years to save his own ass. The guy is shameless.

You have no heart. I wish you and your team many slow rollers in the future.

Didn't you hear? This is the year for the Sox!

Think of it this way, you have a girlfriend and she cheats on you and gets the herpes. You loved her, she was great in the sack, but now you realise what a despicable person she was. Even though it still hurts, deep down it'll always be gratifying to know that her crotch is rotting away.

Point taken, but which of these two would you rather have over for dinner?
