    I also agree with that. Should we put all 5 incarnations of SF2 on here as well? I'd say go with #reload and remove the other.

  2. The best but most time consuming way to do this would to be for everyone (?) to rank their top 10 games.

    Any game named #1 gets 10 points, #2 gets 9 points, #4 gets 7 points, #10 gets 1 point.

    Someone combines everyones' lists, and the 100 games with the highest point totals are TNL's top 100 games.

    For me:

    #1, 10 points, Street Fighter Alpha 2
    #2, 9 points, Battle Garegga
    #3, 8 points, Doom
    #4, 7 points, Megaman 2
    #5, 6 points, Contra Hard Corps
    #6, 5 points, Magical Drop 2
    #7, 4 points, Outrun
    #8, 3 points, Virtua Fighter 3
    #9, 2 points, Mario Golf
    #10, 1 point, Shadows of the Tusk


    This would mean that, if, say, 10 people all had Guwange as their #1, then it'd have 100 points, and a surprisingly high showing, even though most people hadn't played it. A game like Megaman 2, which many people might remember to put up as their #7 or #8, would still place well because more people'd played it.

    Screw that... I have a hard enough time compiling a top ten list for a single system... no way in hell would I ever be able to put together a personal top 100.

    I would prefer a point-allocation system.

    Something like if you choose the four games, each gets one "point."
    Or if you choose three games: one game gets two points, and two other games get one point each.

    In this case, I would gladly choose just Landstalker and give it four points.

    I'd like to vote to pull Civilization 3 and put Civ II in its place.

    Civ 3 mauled the most simple, intuitive game interface ever (in an empire sim no less). It also has some of the most broken code I've ever been forced to play (and by 'forced' I really do mean 'forced' b/c Civ II *mandated* I would play '3' b/c sequels always improve on the original...right? ). Oops. Civ 3 takes a minute or so for the comp to finish its moves. In a top-down, lightly-animated strat game. Boo! And I haven't mentioned the colossally foolish executive decision to remove the blessed Wonder movies from the game. Or maybe I just did.

    Now, Civ II on the other hand...

    Beautiful interface. The first just-one-more-turn game I ever played (and still my fav). Fantastic tech tree. And the best empire sim of all time. With a splash of Wonder movies to keep things...spicy. And the Gold Edition has multiplayer? Winnar.

  7. This thread reminds me how big my Pile of Shame is. I still haven't played through Planescape: Torment even though I received it the same year it came out.

    One word of advice: I would recommend you vote for the four best games and not your four favorite games if you want this list to mean something. I love Wrestlefest and have played it for hours and hours, but does anyone truly think it will go down as one of the four greatest games of all time or anywhere even close? The same can easily be asked of other games listed here. What are the four greatest accomplishments in gaming design that will bring the most enjoyment to the most gamers?

    Okay, now that I've shown my Utilitarian side, here are the four best games I played, though not necessarily my four favorites:

    Deus Ex (PC)
    Shenmue (DC)
    Super Metroid (SNES)
    Super Mario World (SNES)

    likewise, but I could seriously try to rank the best games I've played by genre.
    Hella time consuming, but a TNL master list (no pun intended) could be distilled by applying Stones point system to everyone's individual lists and then filtering it down to an overall top 100, by having us vote on the top 10 from each genre.

    Anyway, that previous list of 50 that is obviously whacked, Landstalker is nowhere on there.
