Thread: Iron Man

  1. I still think it's funny that the guy who Rodney Dangerfield called the "Poster Child for Birth Control" in Back to School is going to be flying around in red and gold armor now.

The first 45-minutes or so - no Iron Man.

Choppy stop/go low-budget cel-shaded animation effects during the fight scenes, and very little character development. It's not completely terrible, but very close.

The Avengers movies definitely had bigger budgets.

  4. figures. Why do they think this kind of shit will fly? Do they think releasing crap will actually help them expand their base? retards.

  5. They also included Tony Stark's dad (?) as head of Stark Industries, stole the stockholders-ousting-the-CEO scenario from Spider-Man 1 and Fantastic Four, and ripped off the ending to Batman Begins.

  6. Jeff "Big Lebowski" Bridges signed for unspecified role

They speculate it's the Mandarin. The guy's NAME is THE MANDARIN, having him not be Asian would be crazy-stupid. This isn't like Kingpin where the character's race doesn't really matter to his overall character. If they are even using the Mandarin... Tony Leung FTW.

This is why I don't use Ain'titcoolnews as my only source of movie comic related news.

Marvel Studios continues to build a golden foundation for its big screen adaptation of Iron Man as it announced today that Jeff Bridges will join the cast of the highly-anticipated summer 2008 event film. Bridges marks the fourth Academy-Award recognized actor signed on to the project, starring alongside OscarŽ nominee Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, OscarŽ nominee Terrence Howard as Jim "Rhodey" Rhodes and OscarŽ winner Gwyneth Paltrow as Virginia "Pepper" Potts. Directed by Jon Favreau, Iron Man is scheduled to blast into theaters May 2, 2008.

Few specifics of Bridges' role were released. He will portray a close business associate of Tony Stark. A confidant and longtime employee at defense contractor Stark Industries, Bridges' character plays a major role in shaping Tony Stark's life.

"We are thrilled to have Jeff Bridges on board 'Iron Man' in this pivotal role. His depth of talent and unique persona make him a perfect addition to this project, truly rounding out the ensemble," said Kevin Feige, President of Production, Marvel Studios. "His character is central to the entire storyline of the film and we could not have asked for a better choice than Jeff to bring this role to life."

Jeff Bridges has appeared in more than 50 movies during his illustrious career to date, and has garnered numerous accolades. Bridges has received four Academy AwardŽ nominations, including a Best Actor nod for Starman and Supporting Actor recognition for The Contender, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot and The Last Picture Show. Among his other memorable film credits are: The Big Lebowski, Seabiscuit, The Fisher King, The Fabulous Baker Boys, Tucker: The Man and His Dream, Jagged Edge and Against All Odds. In 2007, he will be seen in A Dog Year and provide his vocal talents to the animated film Surf's Up.

Filming on Iron Man is scheduled to begin in Los Angeles in March 2007. The film will be distributed by Paramount Pictures.

Iron Man will be produced by Avi Arad and Kevin Feige. Executive Producers are Ari Arad, Peter Billingsley, Louis D'Esposito, Jon Favreau and Michael Helfant. Bridges is represented by Creative Artists Agency.

Iron Man director Jon Favreau has posted an update on the comic book adaptation at his official MySpace page:

First off, the sets are all being built, the locations are locked and the cast is, for the most part, set. As you all know, RDJ, Gwyneth, T Howard, and Jeff Bridges are all on board. We've had a week of rehearsals and I'm currently working with the writers to tailor the material accordingly. Mr. Bridges has a haircut that will no doubt be of interest to any of you fans of the books. Speaking of the the books, Joe Quesada, Adi Granov and myself have been collaborating on a very cool project that you will soon be hearing about. You want to know more, pester Marvel publishing.

Second, I am going up to visit ILM and the Ranch. I've never been and am as stoked as any of you can imagine. I love my job.

Thirdly, Stan Winston Studios has been unveiling suits for us. Once again, they have exceeded our expectations. Those of you who follow my career know that I am very skeptical about the overuse of CGI. I am happy to report that the film will be a healthy mix of both computer generated and practical effects. My goal is to make the two integrate in a way that they usually do not.

Lastly, this thing is huge. I've never been involved with a film this size. I've been prepping for almost a year and feel extremely confident in the enormously qualified team we've assembled. I would be lying, however, if I didn't admit that the scale of this project was daunting. I'm pretty confident that I've done and will continue to do my homework and that I'm ready, but so much is unknown. I feel like a ship's captain about to sail for the New World. Who can truly predict weather fortune or disaster awaits in the great unknown? Regardless, I thank God every day for his blessings.

Filming starts on March 12 for a May 2, 2008 release.
My interest = +2. This project is sounding more and more promising.

  10. I like that the director wants to mix CG and live action effects and props, instead of relying solely on CG.

And I vote that Bridges is playing Obadiah Stane, especially since the director mentions his "haircut."
