Thread: D-I US College Hockey

  1. I'm a huge U Minnesota Fan. Grew up playing it and its the only sport I really care about anymore.

I remember listening to 830 wcco not to long ago and they were talking about how basketball is becoming a bigger sport in minnesota than hockey.. I'm guess since its easier to have a basketball court in a town than an ice rink..and an ice rink is hard to maintain...hate to see our culture fade like that..its also hard to see it lose some of its grip in canada.

On Sat uofM vs CC game they talked to Vanek(it could have been someone else) and he said that the Wcha is faster and more competitive than the world juniors..kinda weird to hear that..course his team didn't make it too far.

Well, depends on what they're talking about. Pro? The only reason basketball may seem popular is because the Wolves are doing well; sorta like the Twins. If the Twinkies suck, nobody watches them. If the Queens (Vikes) do poorly, they can't give away enough tickets to have the game broadcast.

As it is, the Wild haven't had an available seat since they became a team. Not one seat since they started. And they weren't very good the first year or so, and this year aren't very hot. They're also #1 in Jersey sales; so, when you think about it, hockey is really #1 in Minnesota. It's the only sport that can keep people coming, no matter what the record may be.

That last game was awesome. A shutout for Briggs and a hopeful sign for the second half.

The WCHA is, however, probably the most competative division. I mean, there are only four points seperating the top four teams (21 Wisconsin, 20 Dirty UND, 19 SCSU, 18 UMD). And both Minnesota and Denver are threatening with 13 (however, Denver was neutered by UMD last weekend). CC no longer seems imposing with 10; I hope that SCSU sweeps them when we host. Gonna be a fun series.

I'll be attending the SCSU @ Wisconsin series; well, at least Friday night's game. That should be pretty exciting.

  3. They were discussing highschool I believe..or just that there are more poeple playing basketball than hockey...

I didn't believe them..but I can understand why its like that.
Yup I've tried getting wild tickets..no go..I think my dad has been on the season ticket list since the beginning..I know the gophers have been sold out for a long time too..I think the last 2 years even the standing room tickets were always sold out.

Yup the wcha is the best. Dougy woog had a talk not to long ago about the talk of switching it over to a big 10 type deal. Of course he was against it since it would strip the wcha of so many great teams.
In the wcha, it doesn't really matter if a team is go or not..if 2 wcha teams are playing against each other its going to be a good game

  4. WCHA had some action tonight.

Minnesota thrashed MSU 6-0, UMD bested CC 4-3 (too bad; I hate CC, but I want them to put UMD in their place), UND was only able to score twice the goals that Michigan Tech was able to 8-4, and my SCSU Huskies trounced UAA in a four-goal third period 4-1.

I would've liked to see UMD and UND lose. UMD was possible, and may lose tonight. But UND is going to sweep Tech (worst team in WCHA). Unfortunate.

Wisconsin plays Notre Dame tonight and tomorrow; I hope for an upset.
