Really? I must have missed Roger there, if the reference actually was in the film.
Wow, Late to the party as usual. Work kept me busy the last couple of weekends so I was just able to free up some time to see this tonight...finally.
You guys covered all of the best positives and negatives of the film, I think.
--Ron Perlman = Awesome Hellboy>> CHECK
-- Abe Sapien and his new powers are the poop >> CHECK
-- Great Special Effects including Sammael, the Apocalyptic visions, and the Chaotic God in space >> CHECK
-- Kroenen a total badass with the exception of his lame fight against Hellboy >>> CHECK
-- The rookie agent (whatever the fuck his name was, the guy was totally forgettable) a boring, creepy ,annoying nuasance to the film except for his last line at the end >> CHECK
I liked the detailed sets like the Docs office, the museum, Rasputins Mausoleum, the Russian Graveyard and the lighting on all of these was exceptional as well. HB's quips didnt bother me as thats the way hes always talked in the books.
Some of the only things about the movie that I didnt like were that they made Hellboy more of a prisoner/slave to the government rather than a voluntary agent like in the books. When Agent Clay opened up the locked vault to HB's room , I was like what the fuck is this? I think it would have worked better for the film if HB stayed out of the public spotlight of his own volition - not wanting the public to see his freakiness firsthand. In reality people probably wouldnt be able to take seeing a demon walking around doing his own thing, but that was rarely an issue in the books.
The Liz Sherman love affair at first didnt jive with me to well, but it was tied up nicely in the end. Although I didnt really understand how she all of a sudden just wakes up after having Rasputin eat her soul or whatever.
AND I dont understand our 'Boys' motive for deciding to help Rasputin end the world."Okay, he just offed my girlfriend. I guess I'll just give in and help him bring this oversized judgement day slug out to destroy the world.". He couldve just stonewalled him and waited for the eclipse to pass by , seeing as how it seemed to hinge on that to create the portal.THEN he couldve said his truename and given Rasputin a workover - horns and all.
Water under the bridge though, and mine are just rantings of a fanboy. All in all I liked it and thought it was fun to watch, and it easily equals a must buy for me , once it hits DVD.
Cool shit that Del Toro is doing a sequel too. What do you guys think he'll bring to part 2? A version of Almost Colossus? Wake the Devil? Conqueror Worm (though the Chaotic God thing will have been done by now)?
Speaking of Almost Collosus am I the only one here who saw Roger the Homunculus in the background of the BPRD when the rookie agent was walking to Hellboy's room?? chain thong and all...
Really? I must have missed Roger there, if the reference actually was in the film.

Awesome.
I really liked this movie.
From Cinescape and Hollywood Reporter-
It's official: plans for HELLBOY 2 are a go.
The news broke today in The Hollywood Reporter that director Guillermo del Toro, producers Lawrence Gordon, Mike Richardson and Lloyd Levin and HELLBOY creator Mike Mignola will all work together on a sequel to the red-skinned superhero from down below. Revolution Studios will once again develop the second HELLBOY picture. No time frame was given as to when a script may be completed or when the new film could be out in theaters.
"We are excited to be making the sequel to HELLBOY and to be bringing back the amazing creative team that made it so memorable," said Tom Sherak of Revolution Studios to the Reporter. "The film was made for a relatively low cost and has performed magnificently here in the U.S., and we look forward to it continuing its successful run internationally."
In his public discussions about what we might expect to see in a HELLBOY 2 movie, del Toro mentioned that he would like to include the B.R.P.D. character Lobster Johnson in the next one.
"All creatures will DIE, and all things will be BROKEN: That is the law of the SAMURAI."
Excellent, Excellent news. They should also add Roger to the cast![]()
Great, great news.
I wonder how they'll develop HB's and Liz's relationship? Will they burn down the B.R.P.D. headquarters every time they do the nasty, or will they have a nice little asbestos booty-chamber?
And who is Lobster Johnson? I haven't come across him yet in the trade paperbacks...

Gymkata: I mean look at da lil playah woblin his way into our hearts in the sig awwwwwww
A giant wang with claws for hands. He was the bastard creation of a horrific Nazi surgical procedure gone wrong (or right, it's hard to tell). Super powers include: super flexablity, telepathy, master of projectile weaponry, superior claw strength and grip, and he can also manifest a rock hard shell (like colossus) for protection when needed. His weaknesses are pretty obvious (swift kicks to the head/balls, ugly women and cold water). He first appeared in the "Erectile Destruction" saga.Originally Posted by Dolemite
