Thread: The evolution of female roles in video games.

  1. Isn't the evolution bigger tits and less clothes?

Pretty much, as it seems lately. Females are used too much as complete fanservice. Take Final Fantasy as of late...

  3. A few random thoughts:

The girls from FFX-2 and Space Channel 5 look and act like Barbies.

Napple Tale was fun. Main character was just another Alice in Wonderland, though.

I love Sakura Taisen games, but they don't necessarily portray women in a positive light. The girls are all basically reduced to love interests who can't fight well unless they've received enough compliments from Ogami.

In the past 4 years, Nippon Ichi has featured female lead roles in its 3 Marl Kingdom (Rhapsody) games and La Pucelle. The lead characters are often obnoxious yet charasmatic, whereas their counterparts are cool-headed.

Jade from Beyond Good and Evil might be the best female role in a game yet--she's an independent thinker, warm-hearted, her male counterparts depend on her, and she's the savior of the planet.

i dont see the FF connection to that at all maybe X-2 but its more skimpy wear than breasts larger than their heads and skimpy wear

I think a better example for you would have been DoAXBV
    Where I play

One of the playable chars in Hard Corps was a chick, and SS had that female android watching over BILL RIZER. I'm going to name my son BILL RIZER.

I don't know if FFX-2 was designed with sex appeal in mind as much as it was with Barbie appeal. Pretty girls to attract the younger female audience who will think they're "cool". Like Sailor Moon.

One other thing I was going to mention was online gaming. I chose a female, Nei-like character, for my Phantasy Star Online game. I was hit on by guys in the game all the time. Disturbing shit. I don't think I will be using female characters for online games any more.

Trying to use PSO to pick up chicks is pretty disturbing all by itself.
