Damien also claimed it raped Chrono Trigger's name, which is ridiculous, and he gave ridiculous reasons for hating it.

Kano On The Phone couldn't get into it, whatever. Not everyone can get into every good game. I couldn't get into Street Fighter 3rd Strike, doesnt mean I think it rapes the Street Fighter name or whatever.

  2. I couldn't get into the game when I tried either, but I only tried once, and I'm planning to try again. I can see why the game got the praise it did - the aesthetics are unmatched on the PSX and the battle system is original and fun. Or at least as original and fun as a turn-based system can be. Which isn't very orignal or fun at all. But I digress.

Why were my reasons "ridiculous"? Many of the elements I loved in CT weren't in it's sequel. Well, a sequel was what was promised to me in the previews. An I expect that most of what I liked in the original be retained for the sequel.

And hence why I believe it rapes the series because to me, CT was about gameplay to me, and CC was lacking in that area.

Mebbe it's not the board that's funny, mebbe it's just you. Mebbe.

That is such an immensely tiny portion of the combat system I'm amazed you would consider its removal as a huge loss of strategy. And you really shouldn't be talking about CC being easy if you're going to compare it to CT, it's not like the latter has some hard difficulty level.

It is a sequel, just not in a traditional sense. I do find it rather funny that you're complaining it was a generic Japanese story while at the same time complaining that it wasn't a generic Japanese story.

Huh? Judging from your comments about the battle systems and the story I'm guessing you're not referring to those, so that pretty much means your definition of the removed gameplay was picking a time zone and looking for the next scripted event?

One of the things I've noticed is that CC just wasn't what people thought it was going to be, but once they got past their pre-concieved notions they enjoyed it. I thought CC was great and Lynx and Harle were better then any of the characters from CT.

No, CT wasn't hard, but you can make it artifically hard to make the most of the battle system and gameplay.

The story in CT was just an average story, but I found CC's story to be a little pretentious in that Xenosaga kind of way. As for gameplay, I mean things like waiting for the right time to do an attack to get all the enemies. I almost went nuts in the lab in the future trying to get all those things in a single sword whirl(I don't remember it's name) attack. There were times when each attack became useful. However it is one of those things that can only be seen by artificially limiting yourself.

Oh don't get me wrong, CC is a good game, but I really wish that they didn't put the CT name on it as they aren't really the same style of gameplay.

  8. I swear to God you two had this argument once before.
Well that's like, your opinion, man.

It's funny than how every FF game has different gameplay elements but still calls itself a sequel... just think of Trigger and Cross in the same way.
