Except that they share the same characters, musical themes, and story.

This is the problem I had too, the MAJOR problem with it. I love my RPG's for story and character development, and only about 10% of the characters in the game were actually developed to a good extent.

It became a bit silly, people joined for absoulutely no reason. I would have liked it if they kept the party to 7-8 characters, and made you use the more non typical ones like the rock star.

Planescape Torment has shown me that having a wacky cast of characters to use is alot more fun than your basic run of the mill people.

P.S. Chrono Cross is amazing. If you disagree, you're a fucking communist.

Now I'm a big fan of CC, but Magus is the best character in anything, ever. Period.

    Your point being?

It's funny than how every FF game has different gameplay elements but still calls itself a sequel... just think of Trigger and Cross in the same way.
Actually each FF is a completely different game. And were called final fantasy as they thought it will be their final game. Hhowever they got more successful and the series and it's tradition of having each game have nothing in common with the other than monsters and such stayed.

But the problem was that CC was promised to be a full fledged sequel and hence I was bitterly dissapointed because I thought CT and Mario 3 to be the greatest games of all time.

I kinda have to agree with you here...the characters and story only connect in a very convoluted and indirect way, and I don't see what music has to do with anything. It's definitely a sequel, but it'd be just as good a game if it had nothing to do with Trigger.

I'm still bitter Guile isn't who he's supposed to be.

When/where were you promised this, and by who?

Honestly, I hold CT in the highest regard, and I think CC is another fantastic game, and I don't think it does anything to "taint" CT. I just think you're a whiny bitch who refuses to give anything that isn't a beloved 16-bit classic a fair chance. But that's just my take on it, anyway.

    p.s. Icepick is right. Commie.

A group of characters fight to save the world from a monster with Uematsu composed music playing in the background. Even the battle / level up systems are in some ways similar. Materia / Junction / Sphere Grids are just fancy ways to build up characters by placing a thunder3-ball here and then putting that wateraga magic there. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out. With the exception of Tactics, all the FF's are pretty similar to each other as a game. Also, the reason behind it's growing success is solely based on the name "Final Fantasy," and not because they've kept with tradition of coming up with something different. They're not innovating the RPG genre. Instead, they're selling out. Yeah I said it.

    FFX2 is awesome!

  9. Chrono Cross is the best rpg of the 32-bit era easily. The battle system was amazing and after looking at the characters special attacks once, I stuck with 6 characters anyways. I just found finding how to get the charcaters fun. I didn't really care about actually using them.I just wanted to find all of them. How varied the world was and the sense of exploration made it awsome. I swear this game was more of an adventure than any movie or adventure game I played or watch. The game was just fun and I can't really say that about most RPG's.

I have. Dragon Quarter, as well, certainly tries to improve on how an RPG should play instead of using the same old, tired ideas. At the same time, however, it doesn't get a few of those things right, and gets ruined in the process. (The requirement for playing through the game multiple times, for example.)

And I love the storyline of RPGs, I love the days of FFX where Square puts in tons of cinemas and whatnot, but at the same time, are you trying to say that the way the RPG plays isn't important?
