Keep telling yourself that - and nice way of trying to divert yourself of getting owned.

I'm very aware of this, since I reviewed Metroid Prime for TNL and gave it an A.

I'm also very aware that every Nintendo game on the Gamecube that is not called Metroid Prime sucks.

If you remembered it, you would also remember that it was a cynical reply with seven smilies on the end to help make the sarcasm obvious to the person I was replying to.

Sorry, but I really liked Rogue Squadron 2 and Ikaruga.

    Lets see...

Using pricewatch, lets build an Xbox.

    Intel P3 733mhz (slowest they had listed) = $53

    8X DVD rom = $20

    20 gig HD (smallest I could find) = $33

    Nvidia Geforce 3 Ti = $60

    64MB = $8

Figure the case, mobo, and controler roughly $40

    Thats $214. so, 1214 - 179.99 = $34.01 net loss.

Thats without Microsoft's insane buying power mind you.

Yeah all the part get magicall put together and all the ports and wiring and soldering magically appear. @_@ And MS doesn't need the 64 mb since a GF 3 Ti comes with as much. Those small things and labour & freight add up.

A machine doesn't just cost the value of the parts when it reaches retail shelves.

Yea and they are building it across the border in Mexico, and its being built by an outsourced company that pays workers like $2 an hour and is famous for releasing products as cheaply as possible.

Do I need to chuck in the cost of rejects too because of that? And that still doesn't nullify those additional costs.

  9. Game quality is subject. It varies from person to person.

What's hard reality though, is that Microsoft's inefficent, off the shelf design philosophy has backed themselves into a corner. While Sony (through upfront spending on R&D & building their own fabs) and Nintendo (through efficent design and sharing risk with technology partners) have both managed to craft profit making console models, XBox looks to be an eternal loss taker for Microsoft. Part of the problem for that was getting involved so late in the game, so things should be different next time around. Especially as Microsoft's R&D seems to be aping Nintendo.

  10. I always thought that the Gamecube was a more powerful machine than the X-Box.

That means that I am smart. But nothing can touch the Dreamcast, because it was touched by the Gods of Feet. That system had boots on its feet. That shiznit could run better than anything out there man. It could run through anything.

The X-Box doesn't have any boots on its feet. It's walking around bare foot. It's trying to stunt without any tires. The Gamecube has decent boots, but not as good as the Dreamcasts. The PS2... is the PS2. Yes.
