Belly of the Beast - New Steven Seagal flick

Belly Of the Beast (the title makes a great joke in itself, relatively to its main star ), is the latest action filled entry on the career list of Steven Seagal. With the title like that, one would expect a forray into direct to video bandness, but after watching this movie, I was pleasantly surprised. It was quite good, in fact one of the better films that Seagal done during his career.

Working with famous HK director/choreographer Siu-Tung Ching and his team definately helped, since BOB is filled with quite cool martial arts sequences, few decent gunfights, and while good old Steven is heavily dubbed in many scenes, ones with "real" him pounding on the baddies, are good.

Set in Thailand, it tells the story of former CIA agent(who else ), going after the group of terrorists/rebels/arm dealers, who is responsible for kidnapping of his young daugther and her friends. But the things are not what they seem to be, Seagal has to go through street gangs, former associates, evil general and his army, black magic priest and one mean kungfu fighting transvestite to save his daughter. All filmed in fun way, with good mix of regular fighting and wire-fu, and lots of bloodletting. Plus it has very cool gun vs bow showdown, followed by pretty brutal swordfight.

Byron Man of Streetfighter fame, stars as Seagal's old friend, now Buddist monk, who comes to Steven side to fight for justice(and even has his own mine Matrix-like foyer shootout ).

So, fans of Seagal, or just fans of good action, definately should check this flick. Its not a great cinema, but has enough entertaining and funny moments(both intentional and not) to be a fun 90 minutes.

Return of the King of course. While I was somewhat dissapointed by ROTK, I never said it wasnt a GREAT film.

BOB is a decent time killer, but great cineme its not.

You've obviously put a lot of research in to this Seagul movie and wanted to share it with us. Thanks for that... but most people here have a hard time taking your taste in movies seriously. I'm sure you're just having an off year.

I love seagul movies...the beach, the the salty air, and the way they fly around, going "caw! caw!". They're so pretty.
