Thread: Jumping The Shark

  1. I always liked the Frank Grimes episode actually and go with the others who said killing Maude was the Jumping the shark point. I haven't really watched it on Sunday's for the past couple years except for last weeks show where they killed Snowball II, III, IV (Named Coltrane), then got V and just renamed her II. It was pretty silly but it got a few laughs out of me.

The thing I don't really like about the new episodes of the Simpsons is the digital painting. Something about it just doesn't look right.

  2. Well, the animation teams for the Simpsons could still be getting used to drawing the characters digitally rather than by hand, so that might account for it. Also, Dancin' Homer (the mascot one) was done by two non-staff writers, David Isaacs and Ken Levine, who later did the soapbox derby racer episode. Both are two of my favorite episodes thoughout the entire run of the series.

The voice actress who played Maude committed suicide (she was also the mayor in South Park IIRC)--don't know if that was significant enough to "retire" the character. Lionel Hutz, for example is not "dead" though he is never used.

Now I'm thinking of Phil Hartman, and I'm depressed again.

  5. Um, that was a different voice actress. Maggie Roswell did Maude, and a few other voices, and "left" when she was getting her pay cut, and still had to pay out of her pocket to fly out to do recording sessions for the characters.

I just learned this phrase last Saturday. Odd coincidence to see a thread on it...

Once you hear a new word or phrase, it pops up everywhere.

It was always there, now you're on the lookout for it.

  8. There was no reason to kill her, especially considering that that episode was HORRIBLE in every single way. And it was Homer's fault (he bent over to pick up some crap when the t-shirt hit her)! And I dont see Ned and Maude attending a race track ever, but that might just be me.

    Thanks Jeremy, I was misinformed...

    True, true.

When did Seinfeld jump the shark? I say it was the final episode, which was just plain horrible for about 1857 reasons.
