Thread: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory Widescreen

  1. Uh-oh Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory Widescreen

I finally found the widescreen version, at Best Buy no less. I have been looking for a WS copy for quite a while.

Anyway, this basically brings me to the sub-topic of this thread: It seriously pisses me off that almost every single children's movie is only available in 4:3, almost none of them are in widescreen. Now I'm not talking only about the crap that nobody cares about, I'm talking about the Disney movies (cartoon and live-action) and many of the other movies I loved as a kid. Kind of a shame as all of them got theatre releases, yet none of them are available in WS. About the only things I have been able to find WS versions of is Wonka and the Never Ending Story.

PS: Please don't explain to me why it isn't in their interest to release them in WS, because I know, and I know why. Save it.

  2. I know some movies were never shot in widescreen even though they recived a theatre release, the Karate Kid for example. I have no idea if that applies to any of the ones you're looking for though.

  3. Is that true? It was 4:3 in the theatre? Weird. And the movies I'm talking about were originally in WS.

  4. what the hell karate kid.. is not in not in widesreen.. weird

  5. Most, if not all, of Kubrick's movies are full-frame.

As for why kid's movies are not in widescreen... I dont know. It's really bizarre. Shit like that just makes no sense.

    2001 Wasn't.

  7. You'll have to settle for the Disney anniversary editions (a la Lion King, Sleeping Beauty, etc) to get them all in widescreen. Unfortunately that will take forever.

I had this happen to me with The Witches. Nothing pisses me off more than seeing a DVD start with "this movie has been formatted to fit your screen." That's just bullshit.

At least the Neverending Story trilogy was widescreen (and only like, $6 a pop too!).

  8. clockward orange is also widescreen..
