When we are small fetuses all of our cells do pretty much everything. As we grow up they gain differentiation but thats because features are turned off rather than eliminated.

Tumorous cells have no differentiation, and they can all do pretty much anything. If you have a tumor some of the cells can turn on the info for teeth, or hair, or sweat glands, or fingernails, or veins, or anythign else.

it is pretty fucking disgusting though.

I love watching medical-type shows on the Discovery Channel and TLC, they're fascinating to watch. This is bizarre, but as someone who regularly watches Ripley's, not too shocking.

Generally it's only teratomas that do that, because most tumour cells have a some degree of differentiation. But since teratomas come from human germ cells there's no differention what-so-ever; you get teeth, fingernails, half developed eyes, lots of gross stuff. Anyway, they smell worse than they look.
