    Honorable mentions to the Dreamcast sports games, the first Phantasy Star, probably a lot of other games I can't think of.

    Panzer Dragoon Saga held my interest to nearly the end (that stupid fucking maze). It's a neat game. I don't think it's good, but I don't really think any videogame RPGs are good. Damn shame more of you haven't played it, since if I could stand the game, I'm pretty sure anyone who likes RPGs would enjoy it a lot.

    How much is it off of EBay now? $100 may sound like a lot, but you guys could just buy the game, play it, and then sell it. That's what I did with PDS, Radiant Silvergun, I dunno, Hyper-something-or-other, Langrisser Collection (or whatever that thing was called), Suchie Pai II, all of those dumb expensive Saturn games. It's like renting a video game and having to put down a large deposit. That Langrisser box set was one of the best videogame collections I've ever seen.

    Probably because PD zwei had better bosses, music, and atmosphere even though technically it sucks compared to Orta. It's more intense and jawdropping. The game pretty much had the best prologue ever and would have made a wicked movie.

  9. The more I think about it, the more I think Panzer Dragoon Saga should be the best Sega game.

    It has style up the wahzoo, it is short and sweet, it got a very strange ending, it is not a sequel, yet it is not an original property... It is an RPG, not exactly a forte of Sega, but it shows that they are daring and will try anything.

    Another game that is kinda like that is Rez. Those 2 = Sega Love.

  10. This one is tough! Sega has so many great games, but I think the best of what I played from Sega was on the Saturn or Dreamcast.


    1 - Shining Force III : Strategy games are on the top of my list and this one did it so well. Too bad I never got to play Scenarios 2 and 3.

    2 - Phantasy Star Online : Many call it a 3-d Diablo, but I call it a great game on it's own merits. Dark Falz has to be one of the coolest boss battles in any RPG. Man, I wish Sega would make a true sequel to this.

    3 - Sega Rally 95 (Saturn): This is the perfect racing game. So what if it only has 4 tracks, the challenge of the game and the way your car controls perfect. Sega Rally 2 was a letdown for me.

    4 - Shining: The Holy Ark: I bought this game around the same time as FFVII. FFVII collected dust, while I was enjoying this beyond excellent RPG. This game was not exactly a technical marvel of it's time, but the combination of a solid music track, excellent characters and enticing storyline just made this game worthy of a second play through.

    5 - Burning Rangers : I used to have an avatar for this game. It's a great combination of shooter and platformer. The only set back this game had, was that it sometimes pushed the Saturn hardware beyond it's limits. I'd love to see a remake of this game on hardware that could do it justice.

    6 - Dragon Force : This strategy RPG is cool on so many levels. It's further proof that Sega is just as good at making RPG's, as any other publisher out there.


    7 -Virtua Fighter 4 : I loved VF1 and VF2 (3 was a big disappointment) and VF4 was both of those titels on steroids. One of the best 3-d fighters of all time.

    8 -Shenmue 1 and 2 (tie): Some will say 2 is superior, but 1 was the game that had me hooked to the end. I've yet to finish 2, but I'm hoping to finish it sometime in the next 3 months.

    9 - Daytona USA : When this game came out, for me it was the defineing moment that 3-D racers were the future of arcades. I've played the arcade, Saturn and Dreamcast versions of this racer beyond any other racer on the market.

    10 -Panzer Dragoon Saga : The storyline and dungeons (If you can call them that?) are allright, but what really sets this game apart from other RPG's, is the battle system. The way you leveled up your Dragoon was pretty unique as well and had an effect on well you did in battle and approached it.

    11 - Crazy Taxi : That's right, I'm one of those guys that finds this game to be one of the best. The arcade game had me hooked and as soon as I'd heard that the Dreamcast was getting it, was planning the purchase of the system.

    12 - Wing Arms : This was my first import game for the Saturn. Many reviewers gave it around a 75% rating, but I think they did'nt get what it was all about. This is arcade combat in it's simplest form and set at a frantic pace. The coolest part of this game, was when you'd dive down and blast your guns at a base or ship then lay down a followup of missiles.

    13- Nights: Into the Dreams: A very unique game, that truely deserves an update.

    14 - REZ : The game is tame for a shooter, but I really enjoyed the artistic design of this game. It kind of remined me of TRON, in some ways and even one of the bosses resembled the Master Controller from the movie.

    15 - Phantasy Star II: I loved the sci-fi like theme this RPG presented and I still hum the tunes from this game every now and then. One of my favorites from the Genesis library.


    I would have loved to put Bass Fishing and Skies of Arcadia on the list. Bass Fishing's best part was the tournament mode. Skies was a pretty cool RPG, but it was missing something, that would put it in the same league as some of the best RPG's on the market.
