Thread: Street Fighter fade...

  1. Even if Capcom made another 2D fighting game, they've havent done it for so long and they've lost most of the people who made them in the first place. So even if they made SF4, I'm doubtful it would live up to the legacy.

built their castles and had their wars. I cannot stand by idly any longer." - Otogi 2

  2. To think about all the time and $$ Capcom wasted on All-Stars...it could have been used for an new SF.

2D fighting games seem to be having a slight comeback: We still see new Guilty Gear, KoF, Samurai Spirits, Power Instinct games. Plus there is that new Sammy fighting game on Atomiswave, plus Sammy vs Capcom and that new KoF.

The fact that there are still big-ass tournaments like Evolution 2003 also demonstrates the life still in 2D fighting.

All Capcom needs to do is recognize that there is still a demand for 2D games...

  3. I say Capcom should release a last Zero/Alpha game and then slowly fade away to take a couple years off. That way, it'll seem like they're done for while keeping fans questioning whether they'll ever come back with another SF. And then out of nowhere come back with a vengeance releasing SF4 to shut everyone up. But, hopefully the fighting game scene won't be dead by then.

Hasn't anybody told you guys 2D is dead? Capcom should take their outstanding characters and make a 3D fighter that can compete w/Soul Calibur, et al.

*looks at list of recent 2D fighting games (KoF03, SSZero, GGXX, GGIsuka, etc.)*

2D fighting games are far from dead.

Capcom tired to take their characters and make a 3D fighter...hence the stillborn All-Stars game...

This kinda stuff was cutting edge 7, 10 yrs ago. I expect more from my fighters these days. Like a full range of motion. I'm not saying 2d should *completely* go away. If there's a market, hey, meet the demand. But I don't want to be stuck playing yesterday's games forever and I'd really like the opportunity to experience Capcom's wonderful characters in a new way - 3d. Is it that Capcom won't make the transition or can't?

If they do, it's going to be like what Icepick said: 3D characters that don't look as good as hand-drawn art stuck in a 2D fighting engine with bad collision detection.

    YAY!!

For an example of a good 3D Capcom fighter, play Project Justice. OMFG THE FUTURE!!!

Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike already kicks Soul Calibur 2's ass. Why would they need to make a new game to compete with it?
