Thread: Pixar and Disney to split!

  1. Pixar and Disney to split!

LOS ANGELES — Pixar Animation Studios is ending talks aimed at continuing its relationship with The Walt Disney Co. and will seek a deal with another studio, Pixar chief executive Steve Jobs said Thursday.

Pixar, which co-produced last year's top-box office draw, "Finding Nemo," said it will look for an agreement that allows it to retain ownership of future movies.

Under Pixar's current deal with Disney, the two companies share box office receipts and licensing revenues while Disney retains the right to make sequels to movies such as "Toy Story" and "Monsters Inc."

"After 10 months of trying to strike a deal with Disney, we're moving on," Jobs said in a prepared statement. "We've had a great run together -- one of the most successful in Hollywood history-- and it's a shame that Disney won't be participating in Pixar's future successes."

Pixar has two movies yet to deliver under its current Disney deal, including "The Incredibles," due in theaters in November, and "Cars," which will be released next year.

  2. I'm not suprised...this was a long time in coming. Disney are retards for letting Pixar go. Just another example of their piss-poor management and why they're going downhill.

Disney will only be hurt by this development. Good for Pixar, however, telling Disney to fuck off- I'm sure every other major studio in Hollywood will be on their knees to work with them. They'll be able to write their own ticket. After all, every movie they've made are among the top 100 money-makers in Hollywood history...

  3. I hope Dreamworks gets these guys. It's just the first thing that comes to mind, although they seem to be doing alright on the CG front themselves (They have like, CG movies on the horizon, including Shrek II)

  4. Too bad that Disney keeps the rights to Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc., and Toy Story. I'm sure we'll eventually be bombarded with direct-to-video sequels that will do nothing but destroy these wonderful movies.

Disney, it was nice knowin' ya!

I was thinking about that, but I'm sure Disney will never be able to duplicate the Pixar quality, especially with their unimaginative approach lately to animated movies. Besides, Pixar is as well known lately as Disney. People will know it's not by the same company and be turned off.

  9. they already make all kinds of shitty straight to video Toy Story movies. Haven't seen them though

  10. A good deal of the Florida Disney team responsible for Lilo and Stitch is striking out on their own as well. Eisner wanted the whole team to move to LA just so he'd have more control of them, thus abandoning the whole animation studio they'd set up.
