But it IS making ticket prices more expensive, with most people being too stupid to realize that the effect generally REDUCES the image quality of the film instead of IMPROVING it. They just love sitting there with these gosh-darn awesome glasses on their faces while shelling out an extra 5 or 6 bucks.

Well, at least the signs for the delay don't point to the movie itself being bad. Also, word is that Jon Chu (the director) is "shellshocked" by what happened. For what it's worth, he seemed like a dude who honestly dug GI Joe and wanted to make a good movie, even going so far as bashing the first one for not getting it right.

Honestly, the child in me was crushed when word of the delay first hit. I'm okay with it now, but it still sucks.

  2. Speaking of 3D ruining action movies, I saw The Amazing Spider-Man trailer in 3D the other day, and whenever there was any shot of Spidey swinging through the city I could barely tell what the fuck was going on with all the blurring and darkness. I haven't had that problem at all when watching the 2D trailers...everything's nice and clear.

    You're missing the point:
In total, it earned $207.4 million on its opening weekend, setting an opening-weekend record, including an IMAX opening-weekend record of $15.3 million (both previously held by Deathly Hallows Part 2) and a record for opening-wekend grosses originating from 3D showings ($108 million)
25% of the sales earned them about the same amount as the other 75%.

    thank you, sir.

    and to Dole's point.

    Post-Production 3D is the worst.

The first time i saw avengers it was in 3D. Not because i really cared for it, but because there seemed to be a 3D showing every five minutes and the next 2D showing didnt start for hours.

  6. Those 25% also didn't have to see it in 3D, they chose to. While there are definitely more showings in 3D making it easier to see those, they can still pick 2D if they really wanted to.

  7. It makes everyone a lot more money. Yea those folks would still see it in 2D and be totally satisfied but they would pay less to do it.THATS THE POINT.

I don't think there is any evidence that moviegoers prefer native 3D over upconverted to the plot that it materially affects sales.

Edit: my girlfriend (now fiancée) loves Channing Tatum. She would be pissed if he didn't get enough screen time. It gets women into a theater for what is usually a cock party. Not a bad idea IMO.

Yeah I hate when that happens, I've had to do that a few times actually.

    Damn that infernal 3D!

If I can help it, I always go 2D, and if I'm forced to see 3D I always keep the glasses.

  10. I only go to 3D movies that are shot in 3D. Post-Production movies I go see 2D.
