Thread: GI Joe Movie

The 20-30 crowd is an ancillary bonus for these guys. By making a movie about lasers and karate and body armor, they cash in on a nation of 10 year olds and we don't bat an eye. Now, if they call the same movie GI JOE, bam, they're instantly the beneficiaries of the same 10 year olds PLUS 20-30 year old nerds with money and it's only going to cost them a trip to wikipedia more than if they just called the movie Laser Fu. If they really cared about honoring GI JOE, to wit, if they really cared about you, then the word "nanobots" would not be in this thread, would it?

I think the fact that it is incoherent story writing, is what bothers people.
The cartoon wasn't exactly The Great fucking Gatsby either, dude. Have you watched an episode recently? We were eight. We were duped. They were commercials.
If there are fucking nano machines that fix people, why is anyone fighting at all?
Why is anyone fighting in any of the shit we used to watch? Because the writers knew we were too dumb to question it and we just wanted to see lasers and karate. Why was He-Man fighting Skeletor all the time, anyway? Because he was ugly? And hey, Skeletor proved that he could be a pretty hip cat in the He-Man & She-Ra Christmas Special. Why did he go back to being a dillweed thereafter?

    BECAUSE IT'S FOR KIDS.

They are getting the modern equivalent of bad cult scifi and horror movies,
In this, they are being faithful to the source material. Bad cult sci-fi/horror was all Transformers and GI JOE and Thundercats ever were. At best.

  2. I'm only insulted by this movie because it looks like the kind of shit that's made for wrestling fans.

I was thinking while watching the trailer if that 'Bodies Hit the Floor' song was gonna come on, and then Kid Rock showed up to get all Coors Light in this bitch.

I'm insulted by this in the same way I'm insulted by Kangaroo Jack. It's an objectively bad movie. You can make a great kids movie. This is not one.
    Boo, Hiss.

  3. Hey, it could still be classy! If what my brain is letting me conjure from intense repression is correct, they used Kid Rock tracks for a stretch of Gladiator ads, too.

  4. I don't recall that.

Come on, now. That song worked so well for Rambo's trailer. Where's Stallone when you need him? I think he could work together something mixing camp, drama, and action to make people happy.

  6. Wasn't Stephen Sommers fired after how badly this movie tested?

This will be worse than either Transformer's movie.

    Faggot movies.

Hey man, that song is really great for what it is.

    Pretend Hard rock. Faggot rock.

    To answer ... Not quite.

The movie tested horrible yes, but I've also heard it tested OKAY. The studio wanted it to test as high or HIGHER than Transformers ... 1.

So, when it tested lower and then a squabble in the editing room. Sommers and Boniventure were handed their walking papers. Then, when word leaked that they were let go ... like Lexi Alexander. They had to bring them back ... why? If word was let out that the director and Executive Producer were let go near the final cut of the film. It MIGHT cast the film in a bad light and MIGHT have the chance to be a Box Office bomb.

So, Sommers is back; notice how he's not out at all pimping his project. FUCK he's not even at the San Diego Comic-Con '09.

Source? I heard this was all bullshit fanboy rumors and that Sommers was never fired. I'd LIKE it to be true, but...
