Thread: Ninja Gaiden: Official Thread

  1. You know, I thought you guys were lying about Alma being so damned hard. You were right.

And aren't you an editor for XBN? I imagine that means you know where the Shift key is?

The first letter in the first word at the begining of a sentence is supposed to be capitalized.

Heh, stage 2 on VH is the hardest thing EVER. Those armored soldiers don't stop blocking no matter what! Then the horsemen right after that? Pshhhhhhew. After dealing with that, everything in life seems easier somehow. Then once you get to the zombies in stage 6... unf.

  3. I just beat Alma. I know I'm way behind everyone else, but what are you gonna do.

Is it just me, or does Doku sound remarkably like Darth Vader?

  4. God dammit. I could be wrong, since I see no way to check and see how many Scarabs you have without giving Muramasa another one, but I'm pretty sure I have 48 and there's only one left that I haven't gotten. Which means I'll end with 49, which means I have no clue where the one I missed is, which means I'll have to play through AGAIN, scouring for that last damn pos. Or start completely over and make a damn checklist out of the FAQ. Bloody hell this is annoying.

  5. I still can't see what you're big problem is, Mech. This is the best XBOX game to date, and the overall best action game ever.

Every time you've been asked to explain why, it's amounted to nothing more than an exposition on a few camera problems.

Surely the camera is a Hell of a lot better than any other I've played with, and I'll even challenge you to cite a better one.

I understand that your opinion is your own, and I won't try to change it, but you seem to be a bit unfair.

Yep he does. I keep expecting him to tell Ryu that he is his father

After few tries Golden Dragon was beaten. My biggest problem was that he kept biting me, since I guess didnt moved around enough. But once I got the rythm, he was done.

Alma 2 was way too easy. But ghost fight are big pain the ass. At least I am glad that Magma Caves are over. I just wish NG concentrated more on action and less platforming, since camera here works much better for former than later.

  7. Oh my freaking God. Never in my life have I been more frustrated, and never in my life have I wanted to yell "FUCK!" as loud as I possibly can more than right now.

These tanks are pissing me off. I have two freaking lesser energy drinks, and I have NO EFFING WAY to get back to that old son of a bitch to buy more.

Mech, I now see what you mean about the camera. If I could make it do what I freaking wanted it too, I wouldn't get chewed the freak up by that asshole with the machine gun while on my way to the explosive arrow box.

I really want to hurt something beautiful right now. Make it scream in pain. AHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Same here. Just whupped her ass after about 30/40 tries. Swallow slice and Inferno Ninpo is your friend during that fight.

  9. And then there's the suck-ass bow mechanics! Why can't I shoot the tank and emmidiatly begin to run afterwards? Because if I tilt the stick too quickly after I've hit the bow button, I go into first-fucking-person mode, holding me fast to the piece of ground I am standing on, just waiting for a tank shell to blast me into ninja-bits.

30-40 tries? Damn, dude. That'd piss me off. Not unlike my tank friends over here. Alma wasn't so frustrating for me. I beat her in no more than 6 tries, and if I got hit by her, it was because I screwed up, not because some asshole with a machinegun gets free freaking hits for no damned good reason.

KOTOR, GunValkryie, and Orta are all better Xbox games (unless you count multi-system releases, in which case Burnout 2, Prince of Persia, and Shenmue II get added), and most certainly is not the best action game ever.
Every time you've been asked to explain why, it's amounted to nothing more than an exposition on a few camera problems.
It has all the bad aspects of 3D fighting game animation lag/recovery, including but not limited to: not allowing Ryu to turn on a dime, not allowing pausing during movement, getting stuck in unintentional combos, not allowing jumping after moves, refuses to cancel animations because it wants to look pretty more then it wants to control well, and so on. It also has extremely poor lock-on, drags on in almost every area, uses context-sensitive attacks and triggers (god forbid I should end up in a fight near a save statue or want to air-dash when there's an enemy next to me), is more a test of patience then skill when fighting regular enemies, focuses on defense instead of good offense for almost every single boss (it's primarily about waiting for the boss to cycle through its attacks and leave itself open instead of actually fighting it), and so on.

There's a lot more that's been bugging me, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head right now. I'm sleepy tired. Oh yeah, and crap like this:

    Thank you animation recovery time.

Zelda OoT/WW, Shinobi, DMC, Otogi, Soul Reaver 1/2, Rygar, Mark of Kri, Sky Gunner, Gungrave, the Getaway, Orta, Shenmue II, MGS 1/2/TS, Ghost in the Shell, GitS:SAC, Enter the Matrix, Prince of Persia, etc., etc. The amazing lack of control and poor initial placement makes this one of the worst cameras I've had the displeasure of dealing with. It has all the drawbacks of the RE/DMC camera but doesn't even have the decency to place itself high enough to be semi-useful like those games.
I understand that your opinion is your own, and I won't try to change it, but you seem to be a bit unfair.
Maybe it's because NG hasn't really been any fun. Technically, sure, it's pretty and polished, but this is one of those games where my deaths almost never feel like I caused them and I'm fighting as much with the game itself as I am with the enemies in the game. And frankly, that's just not all that enjoyable.
