Thread: Batman info and partial script review

  1. I said nothing about the quality of acting. But good acting doesn't make a movie alone. Acting talent doesn't make a movie alone. Envy was a pretty bad movie and it had Stiller, Black AND Walken in it. Mind you, they did provide with laughs, but Envy is utterly and horribly forgettable aside from those few jokes. Punisher was well acted... it wasn't good.

I'm hoping that I'm wrong. Maybe I will be, which is why I haven't totally written off the movie to myself, but in all probability (from what evidence we've gathered here in this thread), it will blow.

  2. i just want to see the movie to see how slow this thing moves. and why on earth did somebody decide it was a good idea to make a catwoman movie? that would be like making a movie based entirely on Storm........why!? i hope the movie does shit so she can stop bitching about the lack of screen time and understand she sucks.

  3. Andrew does have a point here.Halle Berry is an award winning actress and look at the shitty movie shes in this summer. The 'Bat' movies are notorious for hiring arguably good actors and ending up to be total crap on film.

I am hoping that it ends up good though. I question the ...uh..Bat Tumbler design and the electro-flying batsuit, but so far those aspects alone cant totally ruin this next Bat-film....(I hope).... they just have me a bit worried,

  4. I'm not going to say that it's going to be the best superhero film of all time since I haven't seen the movie or script(although I get spoiled little by little), but there are good telltale signs that it won't suck ass the likes of the last 2 films.

Chris Nolan is directing. Memento and to an extent Insomnia has been receiving good praise and he's going to take a very serious approach to the character implementing as much realism as he can put into the movie and the characters from what I've read in interviews.

David Goyer provided scripts for Dark City, Blade 1, 2 and Trinity and is well know for them. He knows how to write good action scenes and characters with humanity as well as edgyness. So he has those awesome movies under his belt(trinity we'll have to wait on). I'm only a bit cautious that he wrote the script in such a short amount of time but there will be re-writes to change something that the director and crew don't agree on.

The cast looks very solid and respectable with Christian Bale, Ken Wantanabe, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Cillian Murphy, Katie Holmes, Liam Neeson, Gary Oldman, and Tom Wilkinson taking their roles seriosly. Ra's Al Goul is a badass scheming character if used right and the Scarecrow can be really creepy, disturbed fuck.

The Batsuit doesn't have nipples are weird codpieces, looks armor'ish and has the utility belt with gadgets and the like.

The Batmobile/Tumbler....looks questionable in design but I'm waiting to see it in action. They spent a shitload of money on it to do some crazy stunts.

The budget is $200 million, which is a fucking huge budget to gamble with but if the film is good and makes a good return it's money well spent. The only thing left to worry about is the score for it but we'll just wait to see who they pick.

All of that affirms me that the film won't suck hard cock and should be even better than the first film(which I did like).

  5. Will: Haha, characters with humanity.

    Here's hoping.

C'mon man, you have to give props to the Deacon Frost character Stephen made awesome. Whistler is also a pretty funny, tough, down to earth character.

200 million is way too much. I know that sounds stupid, but if Jackson can pull the LotR movies out at 100 million a piece and have them so amazing, I have a hard time believing an off the charts movie being made with that much money. Guidelines can be awesome. (this isn't 'evidence' of it being bad either, just observation)

Though most of that last 100 mill is probably just payroll for all of those actors.

No man, I'm not laughing at his ability. Almost every characters are defined through very human traits. I was just laughing because it's very easy to make a character with human traits... it's almost impossible not to.

I got your point though. Frost was a great character... reminds me a lot of Lindsey from Angel the TV series.

It's definitely alot of money, WB must be banking hard for the film to be Spiderman profitable. Spiderman 2 I believe, is $200 mil in budget and thats only after the success of the first so I agree with you that it might be too much and hurt them in the long run if it's just moderately successful.

Even Superman, the most iconic comic character ever I think is getting around(from what I hear) $150 mil budget. It is certainly possible the cast took a good amount of the budget, then there's the high tech Batmobile, the sets, special effects and the rest.

  10. LotR won awards for special effects and they came in at under 100, and their movies are full of big name actors... although maybe they're big names no BECAUSE of the LotRs movie. Van Helsing and Troy both took around 180 million to make, EACH. Van Helsing is easily the worst movie of the year and Troy didn't knock anybodies socks off.

It's probably in the pay roll though... it has to be. I hope this movie is awesome.
