Thread: Batman info and partial script review

  1. Andrew...I dont think people care who the villian is for Batman. People just want to see batman kickass, and I think that they can definetly work that angle. Plus nobody will say WTF is that guy doing playing Batman, cause he looks the part.

  2. I'm pretty sure people care.

Joker is the best Batman villain. They play off one another and they have a rich history. Bring back the Joker. I hope it turns out good, but nothing about this movie besides Scarecrows mindgames has me giddy like everyone else seems to be.

  3. Well, this is the origin of Bats, so give them a chance.

The reason everyone is excited is cause the people behind this version actually seem to care about the property, unlike Joel Schumaker (sp?). And while Tim Burton's interpretation was ok, even great for the times and considering how people treated comic book material back then, it was off as far as actually coming close to the Batman of the comics. The only version to come that close was the 90's Batman cartoon.

Just look at the casting on this movie! It's fantastic! The script they're shooting is essentially the first draft David Goyer submitted, which must tell you how much faith they have in this movie being good. This has the possibility to be the best comic book movie of all.

Yes, the Joker is the best villian. But there are oh so many other worthy villians to exploit. And not only that, but they can be creative and not repeat themselves. How fun would it be to have every Batman movie be just Batman and Joker (just because he's the most popular and well-known)? I'd argue not very fun at all.

We also need a Batman movie that actually concentrates on Batman/Bruce Wayne. (He's an interesting character, if not a walking cliché at this point.) That's what we're getting, at least according to the buzz about the script.

I'm as excited as can be at this point. After how badly they're destroying the Superman production (Beyoncé as Lois Lane?!? ), this one looks like a sure thing. I can't see this one sucking.

  4. wait? Beyonce as Lois Lane? THA F'? Anyway, even though alot of peeps hated it ... I loved it ... The "Hush" storyline was a great story, and it BROUGHT ALOT of peeps back to Batman ... if nothing of the fact that Jim Lee was drawing again, but also a GREAT bit of story telling by Jeph Loeb ... I think after that YOU HAVE TO HAVE A GREAT MOVIE. AND THIS ONE SEEMS TO BE THE REAL DEAL!

Yes, it is. I have no apprehensions about the acting talent this movie has stock piled up.

To my knowledge Joker has never been over done on film at all. 1 movie and he doesn't always appear in the cartoons either. There's a lot of cool Batman villains. But the Joker hasn't been given justice. The whole storyline of Joker falling into a vat of acid was ridiculous. Tim Burton did an alright job, but he admitted in an angry letter to Kevin Smith that he didn't read comic books.

Which we're not going to get if Egghead, Scarecrow and Rah As Gul are clogging up the screen time. Out of all of these villains Scarecrow is the only one I even recognize.

I don't think casting someone like Beyoncé as Lois Lane instantly spells destruction for a movie at all. I'm just not sold on it all. I'm going to be seeing it, but that's because of the franchise attached to it. I just hope I'm pleasantly surprised upon viewing.

  6. Ra Al Ghul is the quintessential Batman villian ... Yes Joker has a more RICH history with old Batsy, but Ra knows the "Detective's" identity ... and location. He knows everything there is to know about him from birth, who his partners were, where he lives, what weapons he uses, what Arts Of War he knows. The Joker doesn't EVEN know that! Ra is the best villian in his universe. Not the most well known, but no doubt the most insidious ...

    Here ...

    RA'S AL GHUL

    Real name: Unknown
    Occupation: International Terrorist
    Base of Operations: Mobile
    Marital Status: Single
    Height: 6' 2"
    Weight: 215
    Eyes: Green
    Hair: Grey with white streaks
First Appearance: BATMAN #232 (June, 1971)

Ra's Al Ghul's true name is lost to the sands of time. Of all the Dark Knight's foes, "The Demon's Head," as his name translates in Arabic, is perhaps the most dangerous. His life extended through periodic immersion in so-called "Lazarus Pits" excavated along Earth's magnetic ley lines and filled with an alchemical bath of acids and poisons, Ra's al Ghul's plan is simple: to cleanse the Earth through genocide and create a new Eden.

For centuries, he has amassed great wealth and power in this campaign, a crusade almost preordained to bring him into conflict with the Dark Knight. "The Detective," as Ra's al Ghul regards the Batman, is his most worthy opponent, and the one man most deserving of wedding his beautiful daughter Talia and inheriting the Demon's empire. But while Ra's al Ghul engineers global genocide-seeking out weapons such as the ancient Wheel of Plagues which spawned the Ebola Gulf-A plague that nearly decimated Gotham a year ago--he will forever remain enemy to the Batman.

  7. Not to mention, since they are using a "new" villian it gives them a lot more to work with instead of trying to fit it into a past batman.

Not to mention Jack Nicholis is the only man who can play Joker, and even if he did come back for his movie I just cant see it fitting into the new style.

Nobody but you wants the joker back Andrew.

That really wasn't my point. My point was that he was done, period. Let's let other villians get their time to shine. And with the bio above this post, you can see how Ra's can be an even better villian for Bats.

Which we're not going to get if Egghead, Scarecrow and Rah As Gul are clogging up the screen time. Out of all of these villains Scarecrow is the only one I even recognize.
Not exactly true. This movie was just christened "Batman Begins", so that confirms this will be an origin movie. By its very definition they have to concentrate on how Batman came to be. So you can figure a good 1/3 to 1/2 of the film will be just his training up to be Batman. Plus, to my knowledge Ra's is going to be THE villian, with Scarecrow playing a much minor role. (supossedly he's not even in costume, but just himself: a doctor at Arkham)

Oh, believe me; that Beyoncé thing is only one of MANY, MANY MANY big mistakes they are making on the Superman production. The director, the script, the producer, the preliminary casting choices. If the movie were to be completed tomorrow with all of the early work as the basis, it would be panned by every fanboy in the face of geekdom.

Batman is different. Everyone involved is trying to be as authentic and respective to the source material as possible, while still give us all something we haven't seen yet, all with top-notch acting and production values. And the script by the same man who wrote all three Blade movies (and who's directing the third). I'd say that Bats' in good hands.

I have to admit, I don't quite understand your hesitations behind this movie. With every new bit of info it gets nothing but better looking.

  9. I'd just like to point out that Beyonce has not been confirmed as playing Lois. Neither has Johnny Depp been confirmed as playing Lex.
    pwned by Ivan

  10. Yes, exactly Green. I wasn't explicit enough to say that Beyoncé was the current director (McG from those horrible Charlie's Angels movies) choice. NOT a confirmed cast member, as there's not even a final script yet, nevermind a Superman cast at this point.
