Didn't Star Wars do pretty well? Anyway, yeah you can tell the movies this summer are in a big slump. Maybe War of the Worlds and Fantastic Four can bring in more people to theaters but I doubt it.Originally Posted by diffusionx
No movie is this summer. Hollywood is freaking out, box office sales are way down.Originally Posted by Will

I'll tell you why.
People are realizing movies are shit. And the prices are too high.
Just saw this last night, and it was fucking amazing. Best super hero movie ever made. Nolan did such an amazing job in being able to jam SO much stuff into that movie without making it feel drawn out at all. A fucking TON of stuff happens in that movie. Just amazing. Bale did a better job than everyother batman, everyone in that movie a did a good job.
And if they don't make the Joker sequal because this movie did not explode at the box office I am going to be pissed. But these days DVD sales count a lot more than ever to a movies success, and I imagine it will sell a lot of DVDs.
Barf! Barf! Barf!
for a little bit, but nothing lately has really caught on and stayed on. most movies lately have their bang the first week and fizzle out pretty fast.Originally Posted by Will

Star Wars has done $364 million so far. I'd say that that is pretty good.Originally Posted by Dragonmaster Dyne
Batman Begins has already done good enough in theaters, and as you said, what counts anymore is DVD. Plus, the sequel has already pretty much been confirmed.Originally Posted by Clash!

At work, we get this weakly movie magazine that deals with everything from theatre to video stores(where I work) and some studios are actually thinking about releasing the DVD's the same day the movie hits the theatre. They are not happy with the slumping box office numbers and they also think it will cut down on piracy. Some bigger studios are worried about it though saying it would be like opening up pandora's box and they just want to stay with the what has worked for so long. Either way the wait for movies to come out of the theatre has been shrinking more and more. It's now common for a three month turn a round.
Personally I think they should look at some of the crap they are putting in the theatre, and try to improve upon the product more, so it's worth paying for it. Also, why does a soda and some candy cost more than the fucking movie?
Yeah it's not doing so good these days but when Spiderman and Shrek come out there's always rejoicing at the movies.Originally Posted by usagi
I think Superman will do good though next year and maybe X3. Hopefully Fantastic Four will do pretty well this weekends but I really doubt it seeing how these past summer movies didn't do as much as I expected.
For real. Also, why does a soda and some candy cost more than the fucking movie?
BTW Batman Begins is doing nicely with the combination of overseas money.
Domestic: $154.1 million
International: $114 million
Worldwide: $268.1 million
With the DVD it's going to do a killing, more than enough to warrant a sequel.
Big studios need to get on movie theatre franchises to stop charging so much for a soda, popcorn and some candy. The markup is insane. Going to a movie, eating some popcorn with a drink costs almost as much as a new release DVD (about the same even). This is the #1 deterrant for people going to the movies right now. Everyone complains about the price.
I wish they'd using sliding scales as well. Something like Batman Begins, War of the Worlds, Madagascar and Fantastic Four should be 10 bucks or so, while movies like Down With Anger, The Terminal and cheaper flicks should be 7 or 8 bucks. (10 bucks is the standard price of a movie ticket where I live) Popcorn and soda is cheap. There's no reason to gouge people like they currently do on the stuff.
