Thread: Sega Master System pads

    Sega Master System pads

Remember the Sega Master System I believe early models came with those little screw in psudeo-joysticks? Those were quite odd. They never seemed like they worked to well too small to put your fingers on. My Friend showed me how he did it which involved putting his whole hand/palm over the stick and moving it. None of the games I tried worked well with it. Anyone enjoy them?

  2. I remember them, they don't work well at all. I suppose Sega put them in there in case people were still hestitant about accepting the gamepad as the standard control mechanism (remember most of prior generations of game systems use joysticks, except perhaps the Intellivision).

There's also the Colecovision, which used a thumb style joypad.

  4. I used to have a gravis gamepad that did that screw in joystick thing. It seemed pretty dumb.

  5. My SMS came with them too. They were really small and hurt my fingertips, so I stopped using them.

I stopped using the standard control pad entirely once I got a Control Stick.

Not only was that thing a horrible controller normally, that stick was totally useless. Sadly, back then, it was all I had to play my PC games with, too bad I had trouble getting it to work with many of them.

I had one of those too, and I agree it was ghastly. The Gravis GamePad Pro was a mild improvement.. but still pretty sucky. It wasn't til I got the PC Magic Box that I had a good PC controller.

  8. Actually, I tolerated the SMS mini-stick. I used my thumb and index finger on that (pencil grip) and it worked OK- but I was more than glad to switch to the Control Stick and hardly touched the pads again after that.

Now the Colecovision controller's stick was a real fucknut. I hated the mushroom shape and would've preferred for it to have a ball-top.

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)
