Thread: Xbox circular disc scratches

  1. I have a launch X-box.

Now, I wouldn't mind that it sratches the disc, but I have yet to remove PGR2 from the XB, and only did so today when I got 9 consecutive DRE's.

The disc is scratched to fuck and it takes an average of about 6 tries to get the god damned thing to work.

  2. NeoZeedeater OK got a question I really need an answer to

EVERYONE else can chime in too please

Does the Xbox (or ps2) create the circular scratches if you put them in sleep/standby mode (NOT the switch on the back of the console) AND leave the discs in the systems?

In other words is it the NOT using the SLeep mode (and instead using the switch on the back of the console) that caused the circular scratches OR the fact that you left the discs inside the consoles??

  3. well, since the xbox doesnt have a sleep mode, no it doenst. (ok leave it paused long enough it snoozes, but its not a sleep mode) and i've never had my ps2 scratch my games, ever.

  4. News

I never turn off my PS2 via the power switch in the back. The only time it's ever been off is when I'm on vacation and I unplug things while away. Also, I always leave my games in the system when I am not playing them so the tray is rarely empty... and I don't have any scratches on any of my games.

  5. Depends which ones you people have, I have the newest (samsung) drive since I bought my Xbox this fall.

    The Philips Drive

    The Thomson Drive

    The Samsung Drive

Yes, the PS2 scratches are caused by not using sleep mode and turning the machine off from the back with the discs in. Putting it in sleep mode with discs in is fine, at least for my machine.

...but it supposedly wears down on something or other, causing those DRE in the future, from what I hear.
My XBox and PS2 trays are empty when they're sleeping/off.
Though, once my PS2 gave my copy of Maximo some vicious circular scratches... wouldn't boot.

  9. OK so the consensus seems to be that putting the PS2 in sleep mode and keeping the discs inside the console IS safe and wont cause circular scratches on the discs.

SO what about Xbox? Does XBox really NOT have any sleep/standby mode at all?

ANd have any of you had an XBox put circular scratches on a disc when you left it inside the Xbox and either powered it OFF or put it into sleep/standby mode (assuming it has one)?

  10. this is why all instruction books say to not leave games in the system when not in use.

and the XBox doesnt have a sleep mode, its been stated already.......
