I saw the movie as well. And you seem to forget that Sonny was differant that the normal NS-5's ... he had emotions cause he had what VIKI(forgot that glowing globe thing). He didn't know the "feelings" he was having in corolation to Human emotions ... Remember WS telling him thats anger, in the interogation scene. He was scared thats why he fought back against WS and was hiding, near the beginning of the movie. He didn't know what to do. All he knew was that Spooner told him to to keep a secret and a promise. The Secret was to throw him out a window and the promise was for him not to tell. He had the 3 laws but he had the comprehension to break them. He first saw WS as a threat(WS holding out a gun). So, him going to the police was out of the question. WHY? He was at the scene of the crime and could have been in jail. Sure he would have gotten out ... but he also knew he would have "died", remember Robertson "Decommissioning" him; so he couldn't do any of that. VIKI had little to no control over the NS-4's and earlier, but the Demo Mechs and such we're controlled by a central processing system aka VIKI. NC-4's were only designed to help humans and to protect them in danger. The Demo mechs like I said were under a central control. They only did what they were programmed to do. Therefore, Sonny knew that he could have been captured by VIKI. I know it seems implausible and maybe I saw too deepply, but everyone missed that one factor ... Sonny had emotions. He was more human than normal NS-5's. So all the human emotions played apart of why he didnt and did certain things. He could have thought out a better solution, but with fear, anger, sadness, that empty feeling, being unsure ... everytyhing thats illogical playing apart of his psyche ... he couldn't rationalize. Think about if you were ina similar situation. You were standing there your friend tells you not to tell you know your being hunted by "whoever" and he jumps out the window leaving nothing but you as evidence. You would probably hide ... react by grabbing the cops gun if he pointed it at you and jetted out of there. I know after I typed that it seemed silly, but it is a movie.

You missed the entire point of this duscussion. We're not talking about how Sonny behaved after he tossed the doc out the window, we're talking about the doc forming a common sense plan that doesn't require Sonny killing him in the first place.

As soon as he left the room they were aware of a rogue robot. Knowing about a rogue robot on the loose jeapordizing their launch of the NS-5's isn't going to sit well, and the robot's going to be caught. Whether it be by phoning the police to take out a rogue robot, or by robots themselves the outcome would be the same.

This was explained to you throughout the movie. Albeit they didn't spoonfeed you.

So, let me get this straight. A robot just killed the main inventor of robots 'jeapordizing their launch of the NS-5's', they stand to be financially ruined, the robot is wounded and needs repairs, and they still cannot catch it?

You aren't helping your position any, considering that it was only caught because Will Hates Robots and needs Backup. The company did nothing, nor did VIKI, yet you want to believe that it would somehow change all that if it thinks this robot is going to tell the conspiracy (Which would be easy to do when it's in custody)?

You are wrong, but lets forget that for a moment.

Why not simply make a hologram that tells the tale?

"I killed myself because the robots are about to revolt, and VIKI is sentient and psycho, I wasn't going to tell you, and make you go on a convoluted chase and lame action piece, but, what the hell, I'll spare you the pain"

Yes, viki would've gotten Sonny. She couldnt exactly expose herself as the big boss and chase the robot with Spooner monitoring it and chasing it so closely. I am right, and nothing you said has disproven the story aside from a little bit of flimsy pretext, but still explained.

Oh if only he had done that. And then VIKi and the facility security would've confiscated the holocron and Spooner wouldn't of been taken on the wild ride. He was trying to get Spooner to get to VIKI before the NS5's were released, and failed. They're not going to let a holocron revealing her plan escape, to a detective no less.

The cops (not VIKI) caught Sonny because Will called for backup. If Sonny hadn't killed the doc the cops wouldn't have been called, and Sonny wouldn't have been a suspect, and he could have gotten to the police unmolested with the doc's message. VIKI had nothing to do with Sonny's capture.

Andrew, I can't believe you're arguing in favor of the movie's logic...the doc (who was a genius, having created robotics and all), being held prisoner, can only come up with this plan:

Build a super-robot.

Record a cryptic, "follow the white rabbit"-style holocron message (instead of just coming out and saying what happened).

Order said super-robot to throw him and the holocron out the window so the cops can find said puzzling holocron on his dead body.

No. The police caputred it. You are wrong. Nothing you have said has shown why there has to be a massive, convoluted plot, when there is no need for it.

Assuming they knew what was on this holo. I tend to believe that they would have confiscated it regardless, why leave it around to start an investigation, rather than simply taking it away?

Wow, this movie is getting a lot of discussion. I thought it was a good popcorn flick for the summer.... but nothing to special to spark a discussion of this magnitude.

He had no choice, but to have himself thrown out the window. VIKI had everything under survelliance and had control of most of the HQ's doors, communications array, and even the guards. He had no choice but to have himself tossed out the window. He knew if he planted the hologram on Sonny ... Sonny would never be able to get it to anyone for help.

1: Sonny is in shock cause he just threw his "Father" out the window. Cause he was told to ... follows 1st law.

2: He would have been caught by any numerious 'Bots under Viki control ... and seeing how theres no law even under Robot law ... that violates the 3 laws ... he could be eliminated.

3: VIKI knew that if he even got away from the 'bots ... he would have been captured by the Humans and handed back to them for the "Decommissioning".

To add as well ... Sonny was out of the realm of VIKI control due to his two (glowing globes). He was created after the Mass production of the NS-5's.

Yes, he could have beat up all the VIKI controlled 'Bots, BUT he couldn't take on the whole army ... plus who would listen to a Bot ... and not VIKI(the first thing that was created by the good doctor ... and she always follows the 3 laws).

Oh and to add ... He couldn't out and out say it cause VIKI knew that The Doctor knew of her sentiance. So, he had to speak in riddles. Riddles is a human thing ... like a wink that Robots COULD learn, but do not have automatic knowledge of. If The Doc out and out dsaid on the hologram what he knew ... VIKI would have stopped Sonny earlier than she did. After she found out that Sonny knew more than what everyone thought thats when she went after him. Remember before he was captured by the police ... everyone including VIKI did not know how much Sonny knew ... Heck she didn't even know he was created ... only after his attack with Will Smith and his capture did she want him "eliminated".

It does make sense if you REALLY think about it. You have to put the pieces of the puzzle together.

This arguement will never go anywhere because we'll never really know if Sonny would be caught. It could go either way. VIKI's reach stretches far and I don't believe Sonny would've made it to Spooner without being taken out, super or no. By that same token the genius doctor probably thought of all the avenues, including sending Sonny to the police with a message, but because he didn't take that action you could assume he didn't think Sonny was capable of making it, and the only way for him to get the message through was by the route he took.

Don't get used to it on TNL. Most users will come in a go: "LOL" to be hip and then leave. I hold no hostilities towards MVS or Dolemite because we disagree or see things turning out differently, this is the epitome of why message boards are good.

Again, just don't think it's the norm that posters around here would do this without calling each other names.

I was mimicking you, but at that same token, everyone does it. Mech Deus does it non-stop. He also says whatever you say and says it back to you.
