That's reasonable. I still think there had to be some other option instead of the guy killing himself, but whatever, all this blabbering about an average-at-best movie is going nowhere.

By that same token the genius doctor probably thought of all the avenues, including sending Sonny to the police with a message, but because he didn't take that action you could assume he didn't think Sonny was capable of making it

I think you're confusing scientific genius with common sense here. A scientist would pick the more convoluted route... at least a movie scientist. Anyway, it's kind of moot since the sensible thing would have been pulling the plug on VICKI before she locked him up and threw away the key. There had to be warning signs. When she started calling him Dave should have been a big tip off.

I just saw the movie and liked it, but I'm not going to argue the logic of it because there's enough holes to drive one of those ridiclous robot carrying trucks through. Virtually every action movie suffers from these kind of flaws. The guy died because it seemed like a cool idea to the writers, not because it made any sense.

The Doc could have sent the message using really fucked up abstract references and tone, I'm talking James Joyce fucked up... so VIKI would be all like "OMG WHAT HE SAY?" and the humans would be all like "What? The roman Nike had much in common with the pyscho bitch in Misery?" that must mean VIKI has imprisoned Dr. Lanning, we must save him.
