Thread: Good Teacher, Bad Teacher

  1. Hippie girls...a dangerous dangerous thing.
    your mom

  2. Japanese is Japanese. Pure pain.
How painful can it be when you list your location as "19th Century Japan", have an anime character as your avatar, and have a shitty Japanese-esque username? It sounds like you would love it, you Japanophile ass bandit.

  3. "Astology teacher must be clinically insane, keeps throwing around bowling balls and breaking stuff to show us gravity and force."

People who believe in that sort of stuff tend to be insane ;p Or is it an astrobiology or astronomy teacher?

My teachers are OK. I never hate any. Every once in a while, I'll get one that is impossible to understand through a thick accent. Maybe a few condescending math profs. I thiunk that comes with the territory, though.

  4. I'm taking 16 credit hours this semester and trying desperatly to transfer the bloody hell out of this boring awful college I'm attending.

Biology - Professor is awesome, he's the best on campus and really, really, really easy. All of his tests are based off his lectures and he gives a quiz every Friday on that week's material. Very easy, I have test in there in the morning, all I need to do is go over the past 4 quizzes and I'll be set.

World History 16th Century - Present - I have the same professor as I did last semester and I got a B in his class. He took a while to grow on me but I kinda like the guy now, he gives pretty good lectures. The only problem is his tests are pretty much right out of the book rather than his lectures, which is pretty shitty.

Government 100 - Basically philisophic discussion on modern ideology. My teacher is a pretty nice guy, gives pretty decent lectures, but can get a bit boring. It's an okay class.

Statistics - My teacher is really quite easy, he treats us all as if we were very young, which is good for a math moron like myself. The test he gave us last was pretty easy but I manged to get a D+ on it. Why? Because I made a careless mistake early on in a 40 point problem making the entire fucking thing wrong. God damnit. I have several more tests to redeem myself though.

College Writing II - I have an interesting teacher for this class. He's a large man from Trinidad and just feeds us grammar and clarity in writing. I haven't really gotten too much out of the class, but it could be worse. I think he can actually help me with my writing... maybe.

Bio Lab - I have the easiest Bio Lab professor in the world. He used to teaches at the middle school I went to and had most of my good friends for 7th grade science. He's the type of guy who gives quizzes that are all true, tell you to make up sources and just an all around nice guy. Really easy to get along with.

So overall, my classes are okay but I've hit a rut where I don't have much work and life is really....... really............... really boring. I can't wait to get out of this school.

I've taken that class too, part of me is glad in that I've never lived a 'sheltered' college life on a campus, for me its always been a commuting thing along with working a job part time as well. Someone's gotta pay for it all. =\ Sometimes I wonder what the hell I'm even in college for.

  6. Hmm this semester has been kind of...

Algebra - it's been easy by now, nothing too hard, just need to practice.

Spanish II - Just making essays and reading your personal opinion in class about this or that story.

Visual Programming - Cool class, it's teaching me how to work on Visual Basic.Net, not too difficult...by now.

English II - Almost the same as Spanish II but in english

Structured Programming - This one is cool, but sometimes he acts like if we know C++ already... there are some already in class that know but not everyone.. so

Lanny Smith is the guy's name, but Mr. Smith is what you call him. I really want to call him Agent Smith, and ask him what inevitablity sounds like, but that's neither here nor there.
    Time for a change

  8. Well I'm going to give a view from the opposite side of the desk.

I'm teaching seven courses this semester at three different universities. At one, I'm teaching two sections of the first basic English course, as well as a section of the second course. The textbook is one of those generic language texts that tries to treat all 2nd language learners the same and does a horrible job of it. It's way too simple in some places and much too assuming in others (past real conditions?). I've given these courses a bunch of times and have mostly ironed out the stuff I'm going to use from the text, but having 40+ (!) students in each section is a bitch. This happens a lot with courses offered between 12:00PM and 1:30.

I have two basic English courses at another university that are cool. We're doing basic grammar (verb and noun types, basic sentence structure, etc) and I always have a ball with them. The sections are big as hell too and I have no idea how I'm going to correct all their tests quick enough to avoid getting buried.

My favorite class by far is the one I'm offering at the Catholic University here. It's morphology, syntax, and semantics, and we're currently discussing morphemes and types of inflection. I can't wait until we get to tree structure! This class is by far my favorite, as it's for English majors at the BA level. I've already taught several literature and phonetics courses, and the experience looks mighty fine on my resume.

  9. I miss college like a motherfucker. Either that or I miss being supported by my parents while going to college...oh wait...i worked a full time job as a food runner to support my college tuition, coming home to my girlfrienmd smelling like grease and butter every night...point being...you bastards enjoy while you can!

  10. Well, this is My second Semester Of Engineering and the Univeristy..

    So..

I also Have Calculus B: Integrals, My teacher is Prof. Wang (hee heehee) Shes great, always has the biggest smile on her face and teachers like she loves math with all her heart hahah I'm doin Ok in that class.. Like the teacher, have teh mid-term tommroow.

I have Electric Circuits.. Teacher is a fucktard, so i dont go to his class... I go to someone elses, so i learns enough

Engineering Mechanics II - Dynamics .. The guy talks like Kermit the frog and wheres suspenders all the time, as well as always has a HUGE 7-11 plactics refillable mug with him hahahah..

Graphical Communications and Computer Aided Design are taought by the same teacher and she is fucking retard and yells everytime someone brings a goddamn coffee to class.. She says she cant drink while she teachers so we can either.. grrrrrr... I hate her

All in all.. 5 courses 4 labs.. 28 hours of school a week, plus homework.. I think i liking it enough.. I hope i do good
