IBTN... almost. GGXX#R is the far superior game, but it plays so badly online that it makes me throw small animals in a blender. It really is depressing. Lag begets lag tactics, which begets poor play in an actual enviroment (because for one to get around the lag-induced scrubbiness, one usually has to resort to some dumb strategies). I also have to admit that I am going to take peverse pleasure in showing people how broken the DoA games really are (unless they managed to fix that in this revision... ha!)

With all that said, I still enjoy playing DoA3. There is no good reason as to why.

It would not surprise me if this was completely wrong, since previews doing such things as going into the details of changes in the game mechanics never happens. It requires effort, research, and knowledge of the engine -- something people in the videogame media have repeatedly shown to lack.

My comment was really based on several interviews of Itagaki, and not on any hands-on previews per se. He has repeatedly said that the engine was modified. Personally, I don't care -- I like DOA and will grab this immediately.

  4. I don't know about you but in GG:XX as long as I stick to games rated Excellent and sometimes Good I get really consistent matches. I've played with TNLers even and we always have a fun time. I'm still getting DOAU though--I'll probably enjoy it more than Mortal Kombat.

  5. GGX was just worthless to me. And it can't be my connection (or just my connection) because I've played tons of MKD and the 3-4 star matches are always smooth.

If you guys check out the IGN preview of DOAU's online structure/features, it's pretty easy to tell why this game is going to blow the others away. Playing people in fighters thus far is so anonymous and stale in a way. Unless you plan ahead of time, it's almost impossible for me to play someone specific in MKD. Regardless of which side of the fence you're on for DOA, Ultimate is just full of good ideas.

It was born as just bringing DOA2 online with DOA1 as an extra. I don't think the core of it has changed. While I like the online aspects of DOAU, I don't think I can go back to DOA2 after all the improvements 3 brought to the game, especially when the counters doing too much damage. I have too many other games staring me in the face right now anyway.

  9. Has anyone reserved this at EB? Supposedly, you get a wallscroll like the one given away with Ninja Gaiden.

  10. I preordered from Tecmo.com and supposedly will be getting that Kasumi doll that only 249 other people would get...until they changed to "while supplies last". At this point, I'd rather have the wallscroll.
