This movie is a load of crap.

Those of you who don't understand why this movie is such a joke haven't been keeping up with centuries of pogroms, Passion plays, violence, murder, and the "blood libel."

To think that people are STILL falling for this literal-minded garbage sickens me.

There's a big difference in saying: "Jews are at fault for killing Jesus" and "Men who were Jews are at fault for killing Jesus". One is blaming a whole race/religion, and the other is blaming a specific group of people who happen to belong to a race/religion.

The Vatican II reforms made this distinction, and Mel Gibson and his father Hutton are a part of an "order" that denounce the Vatican II reforms of the modern Catholic church. Therefore by default they believe all Jews should burden the guilt of the Christ's death, simply because they are the decendent's of some "narrow minded" people.

They didn't kill him because they thought he was crazy, the leaders wanted him dead because he was undermining their power and criticizing their legalistic views and destroying their power base. A lot of Jews didn't think he was the Messiah because they thought the Messiah was going to be a warrior, a man who would defeat the Romans and end Roman rule over Israel.

It's pretty obvious that people who knew Jesus was God's son and killed him because he was a threat to their power structure are evil, it's a given. But that's not all of them.

I don't think they'll depict Jesus being nailed through his palms as they wouldn't have been able to support the weight of his body. Also, anyone who thinks the crucifiction was bloodless probably thinks Jesus is the cream-skinned Andy Gibb image portrayed throughout most of the western world.

To say that all the Jews are responsible for Christ's death is stupid. Are all Catholics responsible for the atrocities committed by the church over the centuries, Mel?

I personally think that the critisicm about Gibson making the movie to make the Jews look bad is bullshit because the Jews and Romans were the ones who killed Christ. Everyone's acting like this movie is a bad thing. I say if it offends you, DONT GO SEE IT! Its that simple. These damn critics and news people make such a big deal about it because of the graphic violence. It probably was as nasty and graphic as the movie will show or worse. I saw where one person they were talking to on one of teh news channels said that "the Bible didnt say it happened that way". So fucking what. Now and then, I'll watch the History Channel and stories about biblical events. They had one about the Crusifiction and how it was performed. The Bible's version is so much tamer. They would beat the living shit out of a person, to near death and then hang them on the cross. The weight of their own bodies, would slowly suffocate them. That had to be one of the most brutal ways to torture a person.

That's unfair. He rejects certain aspects of the Vatican II, which doesn't mean he defaults to collectively blaming the Jews - everything that happened to Jesus was supposed to have happened. He defended his case and he's NOT anti-Semetic nor is his movie.

I plan to see the movie despite what the censors want. If it's not that great, that's fine, I still wanna show support for Mel's efforts. Glad to see others will go.

Anyway, I have to say, the moral compass lately is pretty interesting. I didn't see the ADL go after Arafat, or come out and condemn movies like Kill Bill, Texas Chainsaw massacre where we celebrate the gore and view heads getting chopped off and guys with chainsaws chopping up chicks... Then you had a kid that recently killed his parents with a shotgun and claimed The Matrix motiviated him to do it... Perhaps we should've stopped that from hitting the theatres...

So yeah, a movie about Jesus' last days, oh boy... The horror!!! It's bullshit cause if Hollywood wasn't afraid of a Christian mob when it presented sacrilegious material like Jesus Christ Superstar, or when NEA presented Virgin Mary in a portrait made of dung and a crucifix in urine, designed to deliberately offend Christians (with their tax dollars), that says something... Aside from free expression is ok when you make movies or art that offends Christians.
