Well, hardware differences should be kept in mind... compare KOF '95 to Madden '95 (PS1 version). Then compare Madden 2003 (PS1 version) to KOF 2003. Suddenly SNK-style upgrading doesn't seem so bad. :P

All the more reason to put it on better hardware when it's available.

Uh, sure. Maybe. There's no reason to 100% believe that SNK will improve the graphics any in the switch over to new hardware. We'd all like to think that they will, but to be honest, I wouldn't put it past them if KoF'04 used the exact same sprites.

Hey, every sprite in KoF 2003 was at least touched up, and at least half the characters were entirely new.

Hell 2003's tag team was a pretty big upgrade in and of itself. SNK Playmore is slowly learning. 2003 was plenty good, and with new hardware I'm sure 2004 will be great.

The thing is, I really don't care if it's high res. The main thing holding KoF back as far as I'm concerned is the ROM size limit that forces them into an inescapable push-pull between a good character sleection and good animation. On Atomiswave they could add all the characters and frames of animation they wanted and not have to worry. A KoF with like 40 characters and Mark of the Wolves-level animation is reason enough to get excited. It doesn't have to look like guilty gear.

What people should be asking for is a GGX that plays as well as MotW. Having the gameplay right is more important than being high res. Of course, if the Atomiswave KoF is in high res, then the Guilty Gear series will be instantly rendered useless.
