Thread: Anti-Gay Marriage Constitutional Amendments?

I see your point. Has there even been a formal study about it, though?

A lot of speculation is made and "macho" guys are like, "A growing boy needs a man's influence," and whatnot, but I've never heard/seen any actual evidence pointing one way or the other so all I have is my own experience. I grew up with my dad as a sort of side-parent. When I was really young, I decided that I didn't want any part in sports or anything, and I never sought my father out for any involvement. He never came to me to ask if I needed help with whatever, either. He was just there, and while I look back, wishing I hadn't been an idiot, the fact is that I was basically raised by my mother.

I'm not perfect, obviously, and I have a lot of flaws, but I'm not effeminate and I'm not gay. I don't have any mental or social issues. I've been with my girl for close to a year and a half now and I would never cheat on her or hurt her in any way. So I don't know how well any study into the matter would reflect. It's really what kind of parents you have. My mother was really responsible and hard-working and took care of me. Who's to say that any random person is fit to be a parent, regardless of their sexual orientation?

After reading a few debates on this, and thinking about it, I think the main solution could be to just remove the institute of marriage from gov. period. As far as I know, marraige is a religious institute that was adopted by more secular cultues (just saying).

The other way I see this as a factor is that if gay marriage is approved, then what is marriage really defined as. I mean any two people, whether in love or not could easily decide to move in together and split their resources. They can even adopt children. Shouldn't they have rights too?

Also, in this case, what would truly make poligomy wrong in the eyes of the government. A group of "consenting adults" decide they want to pool their resources and live together. What, "in the eyes of the government" would make this a bad thing. I can go a bit further with this too, but I'll leave it at this for now.
Taking it one day at a time.

  4. Hey, if a bunch of people can get married and stand one another, I don't see anything wrong with polygamy. Hehe.

No, Orwell just didn't believe that Russian Communism wasn't true socialism. Which is actually fairly correct.

Back on subject though. This whole Marriage Ammendment reminds me of another horrible Ammendment Idea... Prohibition. There's no reason that items of morality such as this should be a part of the constitution. That's what legislation is for.

  8. Nice point from Jon Stewart on the Daily Show.

If passed this will be only the second ammendment of the constitution designed to restrict rather then expand rights. The first being prohibition.

  9. It's not going to hurt the hetero community if gay people get married. Personally I think it's none of their business.

I'll back that. I don't see any benefit that has come from secularizing marriage.

I would however support an amendment banning shitty homocentric television programming aimed at the mainstream. Queer Eye, Queer as Folk, the gay-based reality show premiering next week on FOX and absolutely anything involving Ellen Degeneres that isn't Finding Nemo all totally fucking suck.
