Thread: The Xbox 2 Controller

  1. Yield The Xbox 2 Controller

    * http://jeux-france.com/news3323.html

It says that - according to an internal MS source - Xbox 2 will not include the black and white buttons. Studies shows they were hard to reach. Something about that is mildly amusing.

Backwards compatability is already rumoured to have been scrapped from Xbox 2, taking buttons off the controller would support that notion. However, they could still make it so that the original Xbox pads fit into Xbox 2 for legacy games. It would suck having all those extra controllers....

  2. What's Microsoft doing? They're streamlining their beast, but at the same time taking things out that made people want to have it. No hard drive is hard to swallow and now it seems like it's not even going to be compatible with the older games like the PS3 is (with both systems). Weird concept.

  3. Dear Microsoft:

Think Sega Genesis 6 button pad layout. Keep everything else the same you idiots, the controler is fine.

  4. now im thinking this next gen of consoles sony will be the best. this gen xbox is the best. so why is microsoft doing this. do they think they are to cool to be the best agian or do they just fell sorry for sony that they had a better console.

  5. Well, the controller socket for the Xbox is just a re-worked USB port. You could figuratively rewire the socket to have a universal USB connection, so the back compatibility of the controller wouldn't even be an issue.

On the point, I'm glad they're getting rid of the stupid B/W buttons. They were hard to reach and just clumsy.
    Boo, Hiss.

    What are you talking about?

Anyway, I don't like the idea of less buttons either... hopefully the black and white buttons will just be reworked, so when I'm playing Halo 3 in 5 years I can still switch my highly useful flashlight on.

His post made perfect sense to me.

Lack of backward compatibility = Goodbye X-Box 2.

  8. Has the world entirely forgotten how to put 6 buttons on the face of a joypad? Look at the Genny and the Saturn fer Christ's sake. Don't just throw the 5th and 6th buttons away.

This problem was solved a long time ago...

    No hard drive.

    Downgraded controller.

Sorry MS. Looks like I'm sitting it out this round.

A good line-up of games could change that opinion, hopefully.

I agree these are disappointing news items, but like with most systems I think it's best to wait till they're formally unveiled and a few launch titles are revealed to figure out if they're worth buying or not.

And yea, Burn's last line of his post just didn't make sense to me, sorry.

  10. The black and white buttons suck, so they should be changed. The hard drive, however, is one of the best features of the XBox. Removing it is a bad idea. What is Microsoft's reasoning for removing the hard drive?
