Thread: Robert Rodriguez to direct Sin City

  1. Thumbs Up

    OMFG!

    Where did you get that?

The anticipation of this movie nearly cost me my job! It's killing me. In my wildest dreams*, I never thought there'd be a collaboration between my favorite comic writer (and artist) and one of my favorite directors.

Oh, and your right TYB is on the $. The only thing I'm skeptical of is whether Alba can pull off Nancy. I was even bummed my the whole CG sets thing, but after these shots I'm sold!

*good thing we elected Pedro as our class president.

Well, I took a week off work to go to Austin and try to muscle my way into getting a job on the crew, but by March everyone was already hired. Plus there’s the countless hours wasted surfing the net looking for info on it.

After a month or so, I got over it, cashed out half of my retirement $, and bought equipment (Sony PD150, Premiere, Audiotechniqua Mic, upgraded my machine, and some other random shit minus a steadycam) to start making my own movies. I hadn't been formally trained, but have taken some random classes (and there's a lot to be said of what you can get from books). Fast forward to now... I have two more days of shooting I need to work in and the rest is editing. My first gig won't be as great as I initially thought it would, but I think it will make a good effort. My biggest mistake is that I didn’t properly storyboard, so I’ve had to go back and re-shoot. I’ve also got my cousin working on a script for the second project (hopefully I’ll have this wrapped and we can get to shooting it by November). My goal is to have something festival worthy by SXSW next spring.

…er, I don’t know if you needed all that… but hey, I’m no longer obsessed with Sin City!

  4. I think I just creamed myself. That's just... wow. I mean, wow. The coloring, the makeup, the silhouettes... holy fuck. I never dreamed they would capture the look so well.

And that torrent needs to start working right fucking now because I have to see that trailer!

  5. That torrent hasn't worked at all. Anyone know of any other locations to get that trailer?

  7. Awesome, thank you kindly!

Hm, not sure what to make of it. They certainly emulate the style really well but the acting seems like it's going a bit too far, it comes off as more stage theater then it does movie. Well, we'll see.

Edit: Nevermind, found it here , for anyone who still hasn't seen it yet.

In motion the bluescreen/video quality looks like it has a slightly amateurish quality to me, but it seems really petty to complain about considering how much everything else about this movie seems to be being done right. It's just that in my mind this movie deserves to have huge production values. And yeah, it's insane how close that yellow bastard is to frank miller's drawings.

  9. Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner) cast as Cardinal Roark
Well, things happenned rapidly the last few days. While opening mail and relaxing something popped out of the pressurecooker.SIN CITY is a black and white cartoon which is being made into a feature in Texas.Could i come and do a wacky hysterical cardinal for them.Last night i drove to the airport hoping to pay DD a fast visit which went south but she s alright. This morning fog delayed the planes.I had a ticket to London from where i hoped to fly on wit BA but decided last minute that was too tricky.Jumped on a different plane. Now in the us safely for an overnight and tomorrow onwards to Texas.Never been, darrrrn it.Luggage this time is amazingly light.Just one suit and little stuff.Sat in the cockpit for landing.Delicious
