Thread: The Day After Tomorrow

  1. Various Clips from the movie here:

  2. So is anyone seeing this? I'll be seeing it this afternoon. My brother has a hardon for it.

  3. Here is Ebert's review. He gave it 3 stars. Read on your own risk, since he somewhat takes it apart in his usual manner, not worrying about few spoilers here and there. He pretty much says the plot is absurd, but special fx are excellent, and worth the price of admission.

  4. Well...he's right on one part, the plot was absurd. Save your money. Buy winter weather gear. That's what the makers of the movie would want you to do.

  5. The plot isnt as absurd as I thought, and there are some major wholes in the thing. But overall it was a great summer blockbuster movie. SFX were top notch of course. Really enjoyed the score too.

  6. This movie was okay. The entire theatre I was in was buzzing... more than any other theatre I have been in. So it's either good or bad. I enjoyed the special effects and the tornados at the beginning were awesome. But what the hell is up with the wolves?

That said: You get that from the commercial.

  7. Ignoring science, logic, and facts, this movie stands out as one of the most heart pumping movies ever made. Living near Los Angeles and seeing it fall to pieces was hard to watch, even though I hate LA. I was hoping Staples Center would be blown away, but it didn’t happen.

Anyways, this movie is spectacular. After I visited New York this year and seeing it be destroyed in a matter of minutes is very disturbing. I was on the edge of my seat as the movie came alive. Almost every scene was intense. The wolfs being in CGI somewhat disappointed me, but that was made up with the stunning visual effects of the movie. Everything was done brilliantly. How the movie progressed as far as the plot goes was superb. I honestly almost understtod everything they were saying, so it wasn't illogical.

The acting wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. The cast was not bad at all. Dennis Quaid didn’t do an outstanding job, but he did an average job nonetheless. Jake Gyllenhaal, known best for his role in Donnie Darko, played his part very well. I’m glad he landing a role that could get his name out to the public, he is a very talented actor.

Some scenes were weak, but the movie did offer laughs, shocks, sadness, and happiness throughout the movie which made up for some of those weak scenes. Watching the world’s destruction was intense, and this movie could have an impact on how you go about with your regular day, like it did with me.

Overall, the movie was a very enjoyable film. If your looking for realism and great acting, check out another movie, but if you want to go on one hell of a ride that’ll stun you in ever way imaginable, then check this popcorn flick out. You won’t be disappointed.

    Acting: C
    Visuals: B+
    Cinematography: A
    Overall: B+

    SPOILER BELOW

The part where the Mexican border was closed because of too many Amercians crossing the border was a good scene, but the crowd clapped. I was confused why. It was funny, but why clap? Oh, and I saw the movie in Burbank, which is near Los Angeles, and so there could of been Mexicans that found it funny and so they clapped, but just a laugh would of done. No need to clap.

Movie was predictable......not bad, but not too good, either.

They had the "Disaster Film Storyline" down.

    1.) Problems occur
2.) Scientist (w/ family abandonment issues) diagnoses problem, but asshole govt. official won't believe him/her. Family member(s) happens to be headed somewhere on a trip.
3.) Problems get worse, Scientist is believed, but too late for much of the populace.
4.) Family member becomes trapped somewhere, becomes "Mr./Mrs. Survivor".
5.) Problem is more or less fixed, family is reunited.

    Movie gets a 6.5 out of 10

Oh, you know why. It's the Ultimate role-reversal.

  9. You need only know one thing: there are multiple scenes of people trying to outrun WEATHER, and instances of closing a door to stop the weather from coming like it was a freakin' raptor or something.

Awesome movie. Special effects were great, and the movie was so un-intentionally funny in so many places that my friends and I had a riot all of the way through. If you're bitchy about movies and go to see this and want to bitch about science and lack of a plot and whatnot, you'll hate it. If you're somebody who can actually enjoy life without nitpicking everything apart, absolutely go see it.

Yes, that was so stupid. I KNOW a closed door isn't going to stop the sudden cold rush from getting to you.

    Good point out.

..and I didn't hate it because I'm bitchy....I didn't care too much for it because it sucked.
