Pre-mature DXIW comparison: Warren Spector raped my ass, and now I fear Thief 3 like a bad papercut
Yes, that's right my friends, the brainchild of the new defunct Looking Glass Studios has been brought back from the dead. Despite all the pre-mature comparasions to DX:IW and petty complaining (NO MORE ROPE ARROWS?! OMFG THAT SUXX0RS!!!!!11one11one) I'm sure this game is going to kick copious amounts of asses. Here's what we know so far:
1.) Stephen Russell in the HIZOUSE: The one and only voice of Garrett WILL be making a return for the newest installment. Several others who did voices in the first two will also return, but mostly because they're also former LGS employees hired on by Eidos.
2.) 3rd-Person Thief? Well, alright: Players will be given the choice of playing Thief like every other stealth action on the planet, in third person. However, this is OPTIONAL, so if you want to play Thief the old-fashioned way Warren Specter isn't going to stop you.
3.) Smarter guards!: Supposedly the A.I. will be stepped up a notch from the last two, taking several more things into account such as tracking and reacting to changes in light and environment (unlocked door, opened chest, missing treasure, etc).
4.) Dynamic Lighting System: Say whatever you like about DX:IW, it had some kickass lighting. Bringing over such a detailed lightning system to a new Thief is nothing short of inspired.
5.) Open-Ended Gameplay: From what we've been told, you no longer just jump from mission to mission. Instead, you leave your apartment (at night of course) and either get jobs from your local fence (not Cuttey, obviously, but that's just sad to me) or pick up news by listening in to other people's conversations. Naturally, you could just go out and pickpocket the hell out of The City's nightly pedestrians at your leisure.
That's all I can think of feature wise, but here's some assorted goodies to whet your appetite.

I expect this to blow away the previous games. The more open-ended approach should be a good thing.
it looks a lot like Morrowind. I'm unfamiliar with this franchise... what's its deal?

Ok, honestly, I haven't played either since the orignial releases (maybe I should do that, I save all my PC save games) but I remember them being amazing in concept and execution.
Yay. Theif.
Indeed.
It's kinda hard to say what's exceptional about the games; they just do everything right.
I'll be buying this day one, no doubt.
I'm currently playing through Thief Gold, and wow, what a game. I'm hoping I can finish em both up before I get to T3, otherwise I dont have a lot to complain or praise about. OMG NO ROPE ARROWS??? LOLOZ! j/k...
So far I'm really looking forward to the better AI....those poor guards just are a few cards short of a deck.
Thief Gold is my second favorite game of all time behind ICO. So yes, I'm a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge fan of this world/idea/setting/character/overall gameplay. Awesome news that Stephen Russell is returning. I'm way excited about this. ATI should be too since I'll almost certainly be upgrading my card on release (as will many like-minded taffers I presume).
They will probably botch it, like they botched Deus Ex 2. After that abysmal failure, I don't look forward to any of their games. I liked the old Thief games though... Maybe going Xbox was a bad decision…
