Filming production for "The Hobbit" may be in limbo

While Peter wants to make the movie, New Line is having it out with MGM over who has licensing rights due to the fact MGM had been given the right to create the hobbit cartoon years ago and is still holding onto this as a cash in on the current LOTR trilogy. Even if they had the right before, I see this as a way to hold off further creative works from being developed in thanks to greedy fatcats trying to monopolize the works to themselves.

This is just bullshit, I sure hope the current owner gets pissed and puts his foot down on the issue.

It's not a monopoly. I don't think they'll be making a Hobbit movie unless they can get around this. Legal crap is crappy.

Well, MGM was the only one with the legal right for the movie version of it, so I'm sure it is. I just don't belive they have a right to hold off a film adaptation of it because they haven't done anything with this since the 80's.

If they own it they don't really have to do anything with it. So they do own it, then? Or "have it" right now.

Everyone calm down, Hobbit will be made- Let me quote the Holy Peter Jackson, himself: "The Oscar-winning director is planning to film "The Hobbit," the prequel to "The Lord of the Rings," trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien, but two studios must first duke out the legal rights to the film. "I guess MGM's lawyers and New Line's lawyers are going to have a huge amount of fun over the next few years trying to work it all out, I'm obviously busy for a couple of years on King Kong so those lawyers can just go at it for a long time."

And since we know when Jackson says something, it will happen for god damned sure- I mean, he's the highest paid director in Hollywood ever, he just swept the Oscar's (one more and they would have beat Titanic- DAMMIT!), and he pwned each and every single person that said the LotR movies would suck. Far as I figure, his word is THE word, no ifs, ands, or buts!
