Personally my big thing for LS is the program integration; I like having drives, media player controls, and all that sort of thing built right into the taskbar so that I have the maximum amount of space on screen and don't have to go digging for basic things. But I'm one of those people where if a PC is going to be primarily used by me I need to edit the browser taskbar to be as small as possible and have no desktop icons, I do anal.

On the topic of Litestep, I tried it years ago. Seemed a bit too hard to get what I wanted from it, but it's very flexible if that's your thing. Never could use Window Blinds 'cause I'd never install Windows XP on a computer I own
