Are we still talking about France?

  3. I don't know enough about French movies to name 10 "fantastic" ones.

I know that 400 Blows (one of the best), and Breathless are two of the best movies I've ever seen, and I can think of a number of other good French movies (Professional, Triplets de Belleville, City of Lost Children, Contempt).

I'd also say that the Japanese and Italians also have good movies. The best I could do with the Japanese is name a bunch of Kurosawa movies and maybe a Lone Wolf and Cub movie, and even with the Italians, I could only name like 6 or 7 movies.

I'm not a big movie fan.

Pretty much all the Japanese have are Kurosawa... and Ozu. Their film industry is very weak, to put it lightly, especially compared to China. Kurosawa is a giant among ants... they somehow produced the two greatest directors of all time but nobody else is even 1/10th as good.

Chinese films are far superior to Japanese ones, although the gap does close when you add Miyazaki and other worthwhile anime to the mix.

Italian movies are very strong, too.

As for French, most anything by Luis Bneul. But ask Sqoon, he knows more.

  6. Brotherhood of the Wolf was a pretty good French film.

Takeshi Kitano is another good Japanese director.

  7. Maybe France just doesn't make many good movies.

I'm going to go with that option.

There are quite a few good foriegn films, but they are always chucked into the art film category.

    Best ones are probably:
    The "Three Colours" trilogy.
    Cronos.
    The hairdresser's wife.
The cook, the thief, his wife and her lover.

Shit so many movies that I can't remember the name of

    or porn.

  10. The 3 Colors aren't fantastic. Watched them around 94 or so, on LD. Not the easiest movies to follow, which is par for the Euro movies.

Never seen THE DECALOGUE, though. Hear that's hit and miss.
