You didn't say it sucked. You just said it didn't offer anything really different from past MMORPGs. I'm glad I havn't played one until now.
I so told all of you this game sucked months ago.
Be a man and play Warcraft 3.

The way it works (I think) is that they'd have to attack the town guardians before they're considered hostiles. At least that's what I was told -- take with a grain of salt.Originally Posted by Andrew
The swimming animation for Undead is so neat, btw.
I made a Tauren Shaman today to check out the magic system, and its nice, and the starting area for the Tauren is as beautiful as the rest of the game (I also went to Undercity with my Orc, stunning)... but the game is just a lot of fetch quests. Every time I play this I get more and more displeased.
I think even the mindless hunting of games like EQ, UO and SWG is better than WOW's mindless, endless fetching. I mean, nobody tolerates it when you have to go and kill X number of boars for Y person or take Z letter to A person in a single-player RPG, so why is it kosher in a multiplayer one? Especially a multiplayer one youre paying monthly fees for?
Its a real bummer and I really doubt Im gonna get this unless I hear that the high-level game is fucking amazing, which I highly doubt considering how limp the low-level one is.
Im seriously dissapointed that Blizzard could do nothing with the MMORPG genre except clone EverQuest. I mean, I was riding a fucking tidal wave of Blizzard fanboy good vibrations because of Warcraft 3 and this has dulled my enthusiasm towards them.

I'm playing a Troll Shaman (lvl 14) and things started pretty slow, but when I reached the Crossroads around lvl 11, it seemed like a ton of things opened. Fast traveling alternatives, crafting possibilities, quest all over the place, and generally just more fun with a developing character. Granted, I've avoided MMORPGS until now, so maybe most of this has been done before, but I find even if most the quests are "Go Somewhere, Do Something" the battles are frequent and strategic enough to set it off. A lot of the game is downright hard, so grouping is encouraged, and even in a group of strangers, everything become significantly more fun.
Seems like the quests are starting to get a bit more interesting and varied, but nothing like "Storm the Castle" or "Sneak onto Human Lands and Kill a Baby" or anything. It just seems like it gets better the more I play, so I'm still optimistic for the final result, but maybe that's just the addiction speaking.
Randomly: A bunch of Alliance players invaded Durotar last night, of course storming in right where I was trying to do a quest. Needless to say I didn't last long against group of 5 20+
I'm about to hop on now, i want to explore the human world. It's so pretty even the cows look cool.
Edit: servers are down for an hour.

I recently used a Wyvern transport to get between the Orc capitol Ogrimmar and a major intersection town, and even though I'd already been everywhere on the route, seeing it from the new perspective was really something. Ogrimmar itself if something, a gigantic, sprawling city with...I find I get lost more there than out in the field. I do find it funny that Thrall, despite being lvl 90 and living in a huge fort, just stands there like a dork and doesn't say anything to you. I assume the towns will be fleshed out more and have more NPC interaction in the retail.Originally Posted by Rumpy
When servers are back up, I'm going to try and find this Undercity people keep talking about, sounds cool.
Can you get quests in the places you visit? I didn't see any when i was wondering around. And holy shit is gear expensive. some boots that give like 56 defense are like 3g 12s 50c.
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to use different mounts then the ones that are normally for a certain race?
Heh. Noticed that too. I hope they give Thrall something to say, but SWG has the same problem - Boba Fett doesnt do anything but tell you where the Death Watch Bunker is.I do find it funny that Thrall, despite being lvl 90 and living in a huge fort, just stands there like a dork and doesn't say anything to you. The game really needs some sort of map system for the towns, as all of them Ive been in (IronForge, Undercity, and Orgrimmar) are fucking enormous and labryinthine.
Anyway, I decided that even though I dont like it, Im gonna get my free play, dammit, so maybe later tonight I will head back to Durotar and fetch some more shit and all that.
