  1. Derby Owners Club fracas

Some nutjob takes this game WAAAAY too seriously. This 40-year old choked a kid over a G1 race on Derby Owners Club at Smiles, a NYC arcade. Wait folks, that's not all- Jake The Jackass has a history of yelling and insulting other players. And if he loses a G1, he goes truly off the wall.

    Ridiculous.

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)

  2. LOL, I've actually seen how obsessed some people get with Derby Owner's Club... it's nuts. I'm not surprised violence occured... I mean when I lived in HK, arcade fights happened all the time... what I am surprised at is that this Jake is apparently some 40 year old American dude.

    Weird.

  3. it would be great if someone could actually explain what this game is all about. what's so great about a g1 race?

  4. Alright, since I actually play this a little bit I can explain it.

You raise horses, then race the horse, you can breed them after 20 races, and there are "Rare" horses as well.

Each round consists of about 6 races, the last one being the "G1" race, where you need to have at least 1 Million dollars in earnings before being able to qualify. Starting from the beginning, you put your money in, and you get two options, raise a new hourse, or use an old horse (They come on the lil magnetic cards) Lets say we're new, so we'll pick two horses to breed (Or of course if you have a sire and a dam card you can breed your own). So that happens, you get some stats, then you start to train accordingly. Most training is either keeping pace with another horse, or getting to the finish line within a specified time, the closer to it, the better and the more your stats will go up. With that done, you get a "Type" of horse, which determines when to whip your horse, and when not to. During the race, you'll whip right at the beginning for a "Perfect" bonus, then afterwards you'll wait til it's your time to whip, as described by your race horse type. Whipping at the right time, along with better stats will win you races, but it's not uncommon to see a new horse take it all, if the person knows what they're doing.

That being said, G1 Races are posted under your horses name every time you enter, if you win them, so if nothing else, it's Bragging Rights, and it makes your horse better for breeding. That's it, I've won a few, but I certainly wouldn't even get a little irked if something like that happened.

A last point, the community for this game is really serious, you will see people wait for upwards of 2 hours just to play a game of it, they'll bring a binder full of cards, and write down every outcome to each race they're in. I've got about 5 horses that I race, but I just keep them in my wallet, and I don't really give a fuck about the outcome of EACH race.

  5. So it's like a pokemon for the kentucky derby...

Also: If I manage to get to Evolution 2004 this year, I'm gonna try and fly off the handle like this guy if I lose playing Virtua Fighter.

  6. so... there's no money involved if you win? from the way this guy was acting, i just assumed it was some kind of gambling.

  7. Nope, no money at all. These G1 Races are like every 20 minutes or so they really, really aren't a big deal.

  8. Some people really, really need to get a grasp on reality as well as a life.
if ya see a sucker, cut him, don’t like perpetrators

  9. If the G1's are for breeding stats and bragging rights, how does someone else entering in your G1 race hurt you?

  10. Uhhgg...MGL got Derby Owners Club about a year ago.

Final Furlong >>>>>>> Derby Owners Club

At least you actually race your damn horse instead of whipping it into submissionf or a victory.
