Thread: Galleon: The game is finally finished!

  1. Also Pong suffered from limitations imposed on the hardware. This game suffers from nothing more than poor art direction. I'm still willing to give it a shot though because it might be a different story when it's in motion, though if it animates like all the characters are wooden marrionettes, then I'll likely pass. I have some limits when it comes to visuals that I can stand.

  2. Edge gave this a 7/10, I believe.

Basic ideas: Brilliantly mind-blowingly original gameplay, but looked awful and, if I remember correctly, was far too short.

  3. If the game is decent, I don't care if it's a bit ugly - even a lot ugly.

that's what I'm saying. Pong doesn't count, it looked fine when it came out, and everyone knows that. However in Galleons case, no one will ever say it looked good when it came out. It will have always been an ugly piece of shit.

  5. Well from all the videos of the game I have watched it looks really freaking fun. Yeah we all know that graphics are poor, but from what I can tell none of that is going to matter in terms of gameplay, meaning that its not going to be like you won't be able to tell what you are doing because the graphics are so poor.

Edge said it was short huh? Hmmm, from some of the hands-on things I read the game was going to be really big and long for its kind of game like 50 hours or something.
    Barf! Barf! Barf!

  6. Anyone who plays SVC: Chaos or CvS: EO and yet rags on this game for having outdated graphics needs to seriously re-examine their position.
    Time for a change

  7. I'm not playing this game, but I'm happy that some people are and expecting to (and no doubt will) enjoy it.

So what does it matter to others if some people aren't going to be playing it? Just play your games and enjoy them, don't try to make yourself responsible for marketing them.

As I said before, I've enjoyed games with graphics that other people have complained about. Disaster Report was one of the best games I played last year, and although the graphics weren't the best I forgot about them in about two minutes play time, the rest of the game is so good. Actually I thought they were pretty good given how big some of the maps were, even impressive in places, but again that's my opinion.

I'm not going to do that for this game because even if the graphics were good, the actual art style is just horrible. I can't imagine a game that could be in a more unlikeable style. This is just a personal call, some people might really get into the art style.

It's not even that it's "outdated" although I guess it is. I know I wouldn't have been interested in this game in 1998.

It's like the antithesis of Ico, a game with an art style and design I really admire.

I'm not saying that my opinion is right or wrong, just that it's right for me.

  8. I was not really impressed with what I read untill I saw the trailer. That looks really cool! Seriously, the gfx look poor, but it does have a "charm" to it like Pixar movies do. It does not look super real, but it is sharp and smooth.

Some advice for fitting in here (though you seem untainted, you should probably avoid TNL at all costs )

    1) It isn't enough to know more people will play it, if you can't get everybody here to agree with you, your opinion is invalid. All opinions at TNL are invalid.

    2) We all market the games we love around here. If nobody new plays them because of your impressions and stamp of approval, you have failed. See #1

    3) If you have an opinion, which you must around these parts, you need to start stating it as FACT. Accepting that no opinion carries more weight than others is pussy talk and will not be tolerated. Yours is right, or you are weak.

That pretty much sums it up. Should we add this to the FAQ for the n00bs?
