Thread: Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne - Official Thread

  1. So it looks like Atlus reprinted this again. I picked up a copy as I'd heard this was the best of the SMT bunch, and I have to say so far I'm digging it. The style and aesthetic are fantastic, I've been looking for a game like this for a while now. There is an awful lot of running through lengthy corridors fighting random battles, but the story and atmosphere are good enough to keep me interested. And one thing it does that I appreciate so much - multiple battle themes! Why some kind of gamers' mental health union hasn't gotten together and demanded that this be mandatory in fight-heavy jrpgs yet I'll never know. Many is the game that has driven me nuts boring the same battle music into my brain over and over again.

    The reports of this game being kinda hard are true, but only in a "you never ever die in 99% of rpgs" sense. It does suck that if the main guy goes down it's game over though, but at least it as the best game over screen ever:




    It's a shame the Persona games seem to skew a bit younger than this, since Atlus is pumping out iterations of that at a comparatively feverish pace these days.

    Agreed (even though I still like em). I'd much rather see SMT4, honestly.

    There's a rumor that Atlus is in the middle of Persona 5 for PS3.

  4. This was the one Persona game that I didn't own. I've been tempted over the years to buy used copies, but unlike most RPGs which are usually in great shape on the used market due to the type of person that buys them, I could never find a copy in decent shape. Bought it a couple of months ago off Amazon new for $30.
    Some day I'll play it.

    It's not a Persona game, Sosajanamu.

    P5 being announced would mean that i don't like Atlus anymore. More of the non-baby Shin Mega Ten games before that.

    As I've pointed out before in various other places, "pumping out" really isn't fair. The Persona series went a long time with no new chapters, and there really have only been two new games added to the series in the last couple of years. FES doesn't count (unless you count things like "International" versions of RPGs to be new games), Persona PSP doesn't count (a port with a few tweaks and whatnot), and I'm not really sure Persona 3 Portable counts either.

    It feels like Atlus is only concerned with Persona now because the franchise is actually getting attention again. An, in that time, we've had two new Devil Summoner games, Devil Survivor, and we're getting a new more traditional SMT game in Strange Journey.

    It took seven years from when P2 hit in American until P3 hit in America. When I had to wait seven years for a new chapter of my favorite MegaTen brand, I have little sympathy for people complaining that there are now too many Persona games.

  10. Which means my wait was even longer. But yeah, I really do need to give that game another chance (especially now that I can properly play both parts in English).
