All this talk is generalizing the issue.

I've seen relationships between a mid teen and a mid twenty person that have trumped the maturitiy level in relationships closer to either age.

Really, the minor laws are justifited for what they are. But I've met girls and guys who are mature enough at 16 to handle the experiences of sex, and even a few who handle politics, life, finanaces, and priorties better than me (though thats not hard as I'm nuts) and a lot of people my age.

Also for the record, those in this thread who make blanket statements such as " I will never date anyone more than three years younger or older than me" are full of shit.

You'll go after who you are attracted to no matter what.

If you meet a chick loves the same games, bands, movies, and people as you, then your gonna click with her whether or not she's of "consenting age"

I was such an immature, sexually frustrated, and confused kid just two years ago; two years is such a long time in your teen years. So to re-answer my own question; no, even being 18 myself, I don't think I could have sex with someone a year or two younger than me. I think the mentality and maturity gap between each year from 13 to 18 is much larger than the gap between each year later in life, so though the age difference in relationships of older people may be of much larger range, in your teens, and especially early teens, I don't really think experimentation should be outside of people your own age (because at that age, that's what it should be; experimentation, not somebody twice your age teaching you what to do). It's can't be an unbending rule, though, because of course you never know who you'll meet, or the situation you'll be in, but in general, I'd have to say no.
